The clues were many. In the wild places. Far from sight of the city buildings. In the arms of a long-dead guardian. Surrounded by its living brethren.
And of course, it was guarded. And quite thoroughly so.
The monsters, the usual inhabitants of these wooded acres, were lurking everywhere. Maybe it was noticeable that in certain directions, their numbers seemed to grow more. Could that be significant?

It would be lucky if he would encounter a human being, but he wondered if he wanted to be found right now. Even a psychopatic killer had his clear moments...
So he waited, hidden inside a tree. Maybe he would be found, maybe something would attack him, it was all up to luck.
[OOC: If anyone wants to play a character or a monster, they're free to find Paul sitting there C: ]

Not a happy memory. Aqua started to run faster, she needed to find that mirror. The talisman. So focused on her task was she, that she didn't sense Paul until several moments after passing the tree he was hiding in. Digging her boots into the dirt and skidded to a stop.

But just like every sight of every human it tickled his fancy, there would be a prospect of killing.
"Ah...hey," he started, waving as if he's just a friendly passerby. "You're lost too?"

It was the moonlight that would betray the talisman's location. The silver surface of the mirror caught the pale white light as it swung in the wind, a small and sudden sparkle that glinted from nearly twenty feet overhead in the bare, skeletal branches of an arching and long-dead oak tree. Surely it was stable enough to climb -- Tim had managed to place it up that high. Or maybe the ones who found it would be lucky enough to have someone magically-abled with them to spell it down.
((OOC: Lots of monsters around! Feel free to play them yourself, or if you'd prefer just leave an OOC note in your response requesting and I'll try to play a couple scary monsters at you.))

It emerged from the shadow of the trees soundless, a large hulking form, vaguely feline in some aspects, lupine in others. Teeth gleamed in a grimace-like snarl and it opened its mouth to cry out, roaring, before lunging towards Goro.]

On one side the simple lines read:
Oh moonlight harsh and cold and bright
Gathered from the dark of night
We steal from you the light of day
To illumin and open the way.
The reverse was engraved as well.
From brightness stolen from the sky
To light the way for those who died
Shatter and back to repose
We send you now, the way we close.
Well, one of them was the right one. Someone would figure it out.

Maciel looked down at the spot marked from the opening ritual. That such a spell could ever be cast, and for no good purpose... He shook his head. Feeling a light tug at the end of his robes, he glanced at Naata who had come up beside him, forcing a smile at the dark dragonling.
"I'll be all right," he assured. He needed to be if he was going to be of any use here. Turning, he looked to the rest of the kids who stood behind him. They'd all wanted to come despite his reluctance, and even now Maciel still felt anxious about having them there. He wasn't sure how the ritual would work, after all. None of them had ever gone through anything like this, back home. "....all right everyone. Stay close, and do as I tell you. Kaata."
The little blond-haired dragonling nodded, putting on his best brave face. He went over to Maciel, glancing at Naata briefly, the latter offering a nod.
From brightness stolen from the sky... Thinking on those words, Maciel looked ( ... )

And then there was the chance that the men who'd led them on this chase had lied and they weren't going to let them go about this without interfering, well, he could help with that.
His green gaze shifted towards Maciel and the little figures around him. He stepped over, curious. "Think it's going to work? It sounded pretty simple, but..." Yeah, magic. Aside from Innocence, it wasn't in his repertoire.

"It does sound simple, doesn't it...? I... Well I hope it works! We don't have any other options, and I don't like to think that so much trouble was gone through for something that wouldn't work...." Maciel smiled weakly, stooping down to pick up Kaata, standing again as he glanced over at the mirror. "Kaata's confirmed that the mirror is what was involved the first day that that strange flash reflected in the sky. This is the place it had been used."
He looked at Lavi. "So all we have to do is send everything back to where it came from."
