clinic door -- to anyone who doesn't just barge in nurse_cchapel November 25 2010, 12:59:26 UTC

Since Mulder was one to save his barging in for those occasions with extenuating circumstances or the pursuit of suspects (usually of the not-entirely-human variety), he decided to remember his manners and knock on the clinic door. Really, he was looking forward to the get-together. Things had been strange, and as used to rolling with the punches as Fox Mulder was, he still couldn't help but feel a bit homesick, now and again.

So Thanksgiving dinner was a nice touch then. He'd managed to find a decent bottle of wine -- it was a safer and kinder alternative than him trying to make anything even remotely edible. He shifted on his feet just slightly as he waited for someone to answer his knocking.

And someone did. The clinic door was opened and Conan looked up quizzically at Mulder. He took in the bottle of wine and nodded, pushing open the door so that Mulder could enter.

"Mulder-san. I take it this isn't a medical emergency."

Jan hurried down the stairs, running a hand over her hair to check to make sure that the pins holding her updo were still in place while calling down to their visitors. "Conan, do we have guests or a patient?"

Mulder found himself looking at no one, until he thought to glance down. Aha. Pint-sized doorman. He got it. A smile tugged over his face and he shook his head. "Not unless you count hunger, nope."

He glanced up at the voice that comes calling. "I'd be a guest all right. Invited and everything."

"It's Mulder-san," Conan called back to Janice. "He claims to be invited." He was teasing, smirking as he stepped back. "Kick your shoes off. It's just up the stairs." He led the way up the stairs carefully in stockinged feet.

Delicious smells a plenty greeted them as they reached the top. "We're banned from the kitchen," Conan said. "Unless something needs to be tested. Isn't that right, Janice-san?"

"Yep. I think at this stage, I'm banned from the kitchen too." She turned to Mulder, smiling as she gestured for them to both follow her into the apartment. "Please come in, Mr. Mulder. If you two want me to, I can sneak past Christine and find something that needs 'testing.'"

Mulder toed out of his shoes and followed up after Conan. A smile was offered towards Hanice in greeting as well. "Banned from the kitchen? Sounds like serious business then. But it's best for me to stay away anyway." His very presence might somehow sabotage the cooking that was going on. "But if you're up for a stealth mission of that sort, far be it from me to stand in your way."

The truth of the matter was that everything smelled good. He was looking forward to the meal. "So, not a bad setup here, all things considered. The clinic too."

"Dinner,," Conan said as if this fact was self evident, "is very serious business. See if there's any stuffing left over, Janice-san?" He had to think to remember to use the honorific. Was their friendship getting him into bad habits?

"You've not visited before? In here, Mulder-san." Christine and Janice had done wonders turning the abandoned apartment into a welcoming space and the addition of Zelda's houseplants had not been without effect. Cheerfully decorated, the sofa and chairs looked inviting while the table promised great things to come.
