Austria checked his watch; by the knock on the door, he could see that Ludwig was punctual as usual. He'd managed to procure a spare coat from the Manor, surprised at his good luck, and of course, gloves. He would always protect his hands; they were his most precious asset. He made a mental reminder to leave a note for Gavin once a home had been found, and after thanking his gracious host, he stepped out of the door and into the cold.

It was a world of white; ice and snow piled up higher than he'd seen it in some years, but there, as expected, was Germany. He pulled on his gloves as he joined him, and offered him a calm, elegant smile.

"Good of you to come," he murmured. "I will thank you in advance; I know the weather is a bit much, even for the likes of us."

"It's alright. I dealt viss zis cold just recently." he turned and headed back the way he came towards the street. He referred of course to the last winter before the war ended. He'd rather not talk about it however. He'd prefer to crunch through the snow and look at houses to get Austria moved into.

"How have you settled so far?"

Austria had no way of knowing that the cold that Germany was referring to had been the chilly winter of 1944; he assumed he meant the snow here in Ruby City, and nodded. He drew his coat around himself tightly as they began to trudge down the empty streets; at least the sun was out.

"I have not really settled, but I have made a friend at least. Feliciano tells me you are building a house, or remodelling. I was not surprised; you have always been industrious." A chill breeze ruffled his dark hair a bit, casting white flakes from the ground to brush over his polished dress shoes.

"I vas somesing to do here. Ze city is razzer boring. And most of ze buildings are not up to my standards. Ze place vas abandoned so ze buildings here are in disrepair. Fixing zem fills my time. And it's not too different from vhat I'll be faced viss at home"

Austria frowned at Germany's statement; was something horribly wrong at his house that required rebuilding? The economy, perhaps, but that had little to do with the state of repair of his house. Stepping up beside his fellow nation, he regarded Germany with a raised eyebrow.

"Has something happened at your house that I am not aware of, Ludwig?"

He looked at him as if he had two heads for a moment then he recalled that Austria perhaps was from 'The future'.

" Ze var. Ve lost. Italy, Japan, unt I."

"...Ah."

Austria suddenly felt very awkward, which was a rare thing in and of itself. So Germany was the defeated nation of 1945. For a moment, he could not meet his fellow nation's eyes; it had not been an easy time for any of them, and he did not wish to broach uncomfortable topics.

"Yes, the war. How could I forget," he murmured quietly, looking aside.

"You are from ze future, I assume." yeah, nice job hiding the awkwardness.

"Don't bozzer viss it, it is akvard for you." and him as well. He really didn't like to bother with emotional things if he could at all avoid it.

"...Yes. From the year 2011. Though I remember those years as clearly as yesterday." Austria's voice was quiet, but really, it was nearly impossible for him to forget the years between 1900 and 1955; that half a century had brought forth more strife and agony for the both of them than all the years of their existence prior to it. Sighing, he pushed his hands into his gloves and straightened his shoulders.

"It is not that it is awkward for me as it is knowing that there is a great gap in experience and life between you and me. I do not wish to offend you, Ludwig. I know that the topic of the war is sensitive; even now, it is a source of uneasiness for me."
