High above the city, Severus Snape was going about his normal routine since arriving on that horrid train. He got up, showered, dressed, and went to work. Some days he would work on potions - things he thought might be useful to himself or others - antidotes and medicines and other days he would try to find out more information on the place he was currently stuck in.

Oddly enough he had not been trying as hard to leave since the evening spent talking to Lily. He knew they were worlds apart now but he couldn't help himself - his heart wanted what it wanted and that took a bit of the fight out of his desire to leave.

Since that night he had tried to force himself not to hope - not to dream that she would come and visit as she had promised. Still, he found his mind wandering to thoughts of her when he wasn't being careful. If she ever did pop around he would have to face the prospect of one day revealing what his fate had been and who and what he had died for.

As he stirred the cauldron in front of him Severus inwardly cursed his luck. Even though he was twenty years older than her he didn't look it - he looked older because of the life and lies he had lived. Why couldn't this place have taken him when he was younger? Why now?

Moodily, he glared at the small flame heating the potion. Life wasn't fair but why did it never seem to be unfair in his favor? On a shelf behind him was a small box of tea he had purchased - something much nicer than he had served her before. A foolish move as it would undoubtedly never be used.
