OSCARS - I'm Gonna Say I've Got a 74% Success Rate This Year

Feb 24, 2008 22:11

My predictions with post-ceremony commentary.

Picture:  No Country For Old Men (maybe a Juno upset.  Maybe a There Will Be Blood upset, but less likely.)  (Indeed No Country For Old Men.  I think NCFOM and TWBB are equally great and well-made films and even though I liked TWBB more, I'm totally happy with the outcome.)
Actor:  Daniel Day-Lewis  (Duh.)

Actress:  Julie Christie (maybe an Ellen Page upset. )  (And it went to Marion Cotillard!  I want to see this film...)

Supporting Actor:  Javier Bardem (a Hal Holbrook upset looks less likely as the awards near)  (Omg, Javier...a great actor and damned dreamy.  If you haven't seen Before Night Falls rent it now.)

Supporting Actress:  Cate Blanchett (it may go to Tilda Swinton.  If Hal Holbrook gets supporting actor, i can see this going to Ruby Dee)  (Tilda Swinton!  Her speech was lolz.)

Director:  the Coens  (Yup.)

Documentary Feature:  No End in Sight  (Taxi to the Dark Side)

Documentary Short:  no idea  (Freeheld)

Animated Feature:  Ratatouille  (Naturally.)

Foreign Language:  gonna go with The Counterfeiters because Entertainment Weekly says so  (Well done, EW.)

Cinematography:  There Will Be Blood (probably No Country...)  (There Will Be Blood!!!)

Original Screenplay:  Diablo Cody for Juno  (Yup.)

Adapted Screenplay:  Coens for No Country  (Yup.)

Visual Effects:  Pirates of the Caribbean...  (Golden Compass, whatev.)

Animated Short, Live Action Short:  dunno  (Peter and the Wolf, Le Mozart des Pickpockets)

Art Direction:  Sweeney Todd  (Yup.)

Costume Design:  Sweeney Todd or Elizabeth:  the Golden Age  (Elizabeth.  I don't want to see this because it apparently blows.  But I do want to see Clive Owen in Oscar-winning period costume.  Sigh.)

Editing:  No Country  (Uh..Bourne Ultimatum.)

Sound Mixing and Editing:  no idea  (Both Bourne.)

Original Score:  Atonement  (maybe 3:10 to Yuma)  (Atonement.  Dang, how'd I call that?  Also, it's so sad Johnny Greenwood couldn't get nominated for TWBB.)

Original Song:  "Falling Slowly" from Once (if the three from Enchanted cancel each other out.)  (FALLING SLOWLY WON!  And, in what was the best moment of the ceremony, Jon Stewart pulled Marketa Irglova back onstage to say her thanks because she didn't get a chance to before the commercial.  It was so lovely.  You could tell everyone was so happy they won.  Also, the August Rush song, though well-performed, was really sucky.  And Kristin Chenowith, you're usually spot on; why were you not lively???)

Makeup:  La Vie en Rose (if Norbit wins I will go on a rampage.)  (Thank god it went to La Vie en Rose.)

I feel like my prediction skillz are slipping.

Anyway, I still haven't seen U23D.  Who wants to go this week?
