Birth Dream:

The ocean is red, and she is pretty sure it isn't supposed to be that color. She floats high above the surface of the waters in her dream. She begins falling and falling and falling, and it seems like the falling lasts forever. Islands with waterfalls and something that looks like a mountain made of quartz all hang suspended in the air, and there is a volcano in the distance spewing spark-flecked smoke.

She tumbles through the air for what feels like an interminable span of time, and yet the levitating landmasses barely move at all in relation to her position. How long can I keep falling? she wonders as the wind whips against her body, until she finally plunges into the sea.

Her momentum carries her deep into the crimson water until the light from above begins to fade into thick, murky red. It looks like blood. Am I dead? In an instant the water(blood?) changes, and she is surrounded instead by fire. Her whole world is flames: beneath and above her, surrounding her, inside her. Her soul is aflame. She hears words echoing around inside of her head, and she knows she should know them, understand their meaning, but they are overpowered by the sound of the fire that engulfs her. I am the fire, she realizes, watching as her body burns but is not consumed.

She is suddenly aware of another form there with her, close but far away. He is fire, too. He is a wolf, and he is a lion, burning so brightly that she almost can't bear to look at him. He speaks to her, and his voice rumbles so deeply that it feels like the earth is shaking, but she can't hear him. "レイアス!" she yells, calling out his name, because she knows it. She can feel her lips forming the word, but the roaring fire muffles and warps the sounds until she can't be sure of what is her voice and what is the flame.

The wolflionflame approaches her and she spreads her arms, reaching up to him like a child. He leans down and touches his nose to hers, and then he is gone, but at the same time not gone, because they have become one soul instead of two.

As quickly as they appeared, the flames are quelched, and she is standing on the precipice of a cliff looking out over the same sea as before, but she is not alone, flanked now by two other girls. She feels instinctively that they are the best friends she's ever had. Are they her sisters? She can't tell for sure, but it doesn't matter, because she loves them and they love her, and there's no obstacle they can't overcome.

They spread their wings and fly, ever upward, swords held aloft. There are crystals drifting through the air. A thrill of shock courses through her body, and there are explosions everywhere, and her heart fills to overflowing with sorrow and bitter remorse. She embraces her friends and they cry together, trembling with grief, engulfed in blinding white light.

Everything changes again, and she suddenly stands looking up in equal parts befuddlement and admiration at a man that is almost twice her height as he shelters her from the rain in the lee of a large boulder. He is holding his arm above her head, and the folds of his cape fall all around her, but he stares out across a barren wasteland instead of looking at her, and she wonders what he's thinking. She says his name, but once again, the sound is drowned out.

There is a castle in the distance with crystalline spires reaching up to the sky, and worlds wheel overhead. She feels the velvet-soft brush of a rabbit's ear against her cheek, and she smiles as the rain patters down. A hand tugs on hers, and as she turns, the world goes white again. She looks into a mirror and her reflection smiles back at her, giggling and moving although she is silent and still.

"Hello 光," her reflection says.

"Who...?"

"I'm Nova. The one who was born for you. Nova."

"Born... for me?"

"Yes. I was born just for you, 光."

"Nova..."

Her bright white surrounding begins to fade away, falling like flower petals and shards of glass into nothing. All that's left is her flickering reflection and darkness.

Nova.
