Chapter I
Kikwang dragged himself out of the university building. It was already 9 p.m. when he decided to go home. He walked his way to his car and started the engine. He was so tired today since he had a very long session of lectures and student committee meeting. Not to mention tons of assignment he got to work on. Yes it was his dream to be a doctor but studying like this every single day was a very hard thing to do. At least, he felt so.
He got his car out of the parking lot and drove home. The road had been empty and there were no traffic jam. He turned right at the corner of the main road to his apartment. His apartment wasn’t a type of fancy apartment. It was just an average classed apartment, something that a common university student would have. He lived on the 8th floor, room number 815; a room with a city view. He could see his university building since it wasn’t too far from his apartment.
He parked his car at the place where he usually parks his car, area A8. It was a special area for residents only. He shut his car down, took his bag and books, and locked his car. He took the lift to his floor and opened his apartment door. His apartment wasn’t too big but it wasn’t too small either. It was middle sized. There were five rooms in total: the living room which was right in front of the front door, the kitchen which was on the far right side of the front door, the bathroom which was exactly on the right side of the front door, the bedroom which was on the left side of the living room and the library and working room which was right beside the bedroom.
He turned on the living room lamps because it was dark black inside his apartment. He then threw himself on the couch, rested his tired body. He felt sore on his back because he lacked sleep on the last three days. His head was spinning slowly and he felt like sucked into a hole. He covered his eyes with his arms, tried to block the light from getting into his eyes. He tried to take a quick nap.
Five minutes later he dragged himself to his bathroom and took a quick shower with warm water dripping down his body. It was originally just to clean his body, but he felt more refreshed because his tensed muscles were relaxed. He changed his clothes to a comfortable oversized t-shirt and sweatpants.
He then ate a quick dinner before getting ready to finish his assignment for tomorrow. He heated this morning’s omelette on his microwave, took out some rice and chilli sauce, made a glass of hot chocolate, and munched them in no time.
When he was about to get ready and work on his assignment, he realized that he left his laptop inside his car, which was parked on the basement. So, he needed to go downstairs and take his laptop back.
Reluctantly, he dragged his tired body out of his sanctuary and went downstairs to his parked car. The apartment was already quiet at that time. The clock on his cell phone showed that it was already 10.30 PM. When he arrived on the parking lot, he went directly to his car and opened the door. Then, he took his laptop bag from the backseat.
“H-h-help....”
Kikwang was closing the car door when he suddenly heard someone asking for help. He stood on his place, tried to listen where the sounds came from. He wasn’t too sure about what he just heard. Did I just hear someone’s voice? Kikwang asked himself. He went silent for a moment, trying to catch any sound around him. But nothing came to his hearing. He was a bit confused but well, maybe he misheard it.
Sometimes you heard something like that whenever you’re too tired, Kikwang tried to tell himself. I gotta get some sleep. Maybe it was just my imag--
“H-h-help…”
Once again he heard that voice.
This time he was sure that it was real; the voice was real. Someone was really asking for help. He looked around but nothing came to his eyesight. No one was there except himself and the silent parked cars. He looked around again, tried to focus his sight on the dark area of the parking lot. Still he can see nothing.
Sure, he was afraid to find out who was there asking for his help. But, he couldn’t just walk away. What if someone was in critical condition? What if someone needs his help?
He quickly opened his car again, left his bag there, and took out an umbrella. He wasn’t so sure about finding the source of the voice, but he still did. He moved forward and then he walked his way south, umbrella was ready on his hand. After he went around the parking lot, he heard someone mumbled from the A2 area. He walked his way slowly and carefully to the area. He checked the car one by one. Finally, he found the source, which was right behind a Nissan parked on the A2 area. He got his umbrella ready to face whatever was there.
He moved forward slowly and took a peek on what was behind the car. To his surprise, it was a boy, a beautiful brown-haired boy, leaning on the car’s back. He looked pale and there was a huge dark stain on the left side of his shirt. Kikwang’s mouth went open, he dropped his umbrella and quickly kneeled on the ground, next to the mysterious wounded boy.
“Hey, are you okay?” he quickly checked on the boy’s temperature. He placed his hand on the boy’s head to feel that the boy’s body was cool and his body was covered in layers of sweat. He was panting hard and his breaths were unstable. He checked on the boy’s blood pulse while still calling on him, to make sure he was still conscious.
“Hey, hey, are you okay?”
Luckily his pulse was still there, but it was kinda weak and fast. Kikwang called the boy again, “Hey, hey, are you okay? Hey!”
Kikwang tried to shake the boy’s arm but the boy shrieked a pitiful sound whenever Kikwang moved his arm. He then had the feeling that there were some major wounds on this boy. He touched the left side of the boy’s torso, right under the big stain on the boy’s shirt. To his surprise, a large pool of blood formed on his bare hand. The blood was still warm and it was dripping from a wound on the boy’s left side torso. Kikwang was a bit panicked at the moment. His sleepiness suddenly vanished because of adrenaline rushing on his veins. He quickly but gently shifted the boy’s position so he could take a good look on the wound. He tore the shirt down, just to be shocked again because the wound was quite big.
He couldn’t guess what the cause of the wound was, but it looked like a wound from a knife. Someone tried to kill him? He asked himself. Who is this guy?
Tons of unanswered questions started to form in his head, his mind just suddenly went blank.
The boy’s breathing was getting heavier as Kikwang froze on his place. His face got paler and his temperature was dropping fast. Luckily, Kikwang snapped back to reality in time. He took out his cell phone out of his pocket and called for an ambulance. He checked the boy’s pulse (again), it was still there even though it was getting weaker. Then, he applied pressure to the wound to prevent the massive blood loss.
After five minutes that lasted like forever, the ambulance came and got the boy into the car. Kikwang was also there to accompany him - since it was him who found the boy - to the hospital. The hospital which they were heading to was Kikwang’s university hospital. It was definitely the biggest hospital in the city, since the city itself wasn’t so big. It’s called The King’s University Hospital.
The paramedics in the ambulance tried to support the boy’s life with their ability. They tried to stop the blood from bursting out of the wound, kept him warm, and made sure he was still with them. Kikwang was confused about this boy’s identity. Who is he? Why he was there? Is there a murderer in the area?
He couldn't believe what he just said. M-m-murderer?
He shook his head in terror; he couldn’t imagine that. No one had ever reported something like murdering since he had been living in his apartment. It was just an accident, an accident. What happened to the boy was just an accident… Kikwang tried to tell himself. But apparently, he had the feeling that it was wrong all along.
