It’s still 5 a.m. in the morning, but Kibum is already wide awake. Even though he is a light sleeper, it’s rare for him to be up at this time. He rolls slowly down his medium sized bed and blinks his eyes several times. Then, he walks to the window and opens the curtains. He sees bright orange streaks on the dark blue morning sky in front of him. He steps out to the balcony, feeling the fresh morning air. The crispy and breezy wind blowing his face making him shiver a bit.
A small smile forms on his lips. This morning looks so beautiful. His mind is travelling somewhere; wondering what Jonghyun is doing now. He cannot get that man’s face out of his mind since his brave action yesterday. He is curious about what Jonghyun thinks about him. He didn’t think much when he kissed him earlier. He just felt that he wanted to show him that he is very happy; but he didn’t know why it turned out to be a kiss on the cheek. But he didn’t regret it, not at all.
After feeling much fresher than before, he steps back into his hotel room. He takes his bath robe and gets into the shower. The second he feels warm water running down his delicate fair skin, his mind flashes back to yesterday’s event, right before they did their jump.
Kibum was staring deep at Jonghyun’s eyes. Once again he shot him with his puppy eyes look. He really wanted to have Jonghyun accompany him. Kibum wasn’t too sure whether he could win this battle because Jonghyun seemed like a very persistent person and he wasn’t easily persuaded. “Please?” Kibum begged him once again.
Jonghyun looked at those feline and slender eyes of Kibum. Maybe they weren’t the most beautiful eyes in this world, but something was drawing him deeper and deeper to Kibum’s black black eyes. Maybe it was his gaze, maybe it was something else, Jonghyun wasn’t too sure himself. He just found that the other man’s eyes were too... attractive.
“Come on? Please, Jonghyun?” Kibum begged him. Jonghyun still said nothing; his mind was being a battlefield for the two opposite sides of himself. “...Okay, I promise that I’ll accompany you to wherever you want to go tomorrow. It’s up to you. I won’t ask you to do something you don’t want anymore. I promise, promise, promise!”
Jonghyun face suddenly brightened up, “That sounds good. Really, really up to me?”
“Yeah, I don’t break promises, stupid.”
“Even if I say that I want to go on picnic with you?”
“Yeah, haven’t I said that I don’t break promises? And once again, it’s up to you.”
“...Okay then, I’ll jump.”
“Really? You’re too easy, Jjong,” Kibum showed his winning smile as he said that. Jonghyun pushed him gently, “Oh so you want to jump alone?” he threatened Kibum. Kibum quickly shaked his head and pulled Jonghyun’s arm to the bungee tower, “No, I want you to jump with me. Come on!” Jonghyun followed him while having this small smile on his face. His nervousness vanished all at once.
Kibum decides to wear his light blue polo shirt, a khaki short, and a pair of white sandals, one of his favorites. He closes his hotel room door and goes to the hotel’s business district to prepare something for Jonghyun. Since yesterday Jonghyun said that he wanted to go to a picnic, Kibum tries to make it happens (though he’s not so sure himself whether Jonghyun wants to go on a picnic or not).
On the far corner of the district, there’s a store where costumer can rent a picnic kit. They even provide the costumer with set of foods for the picnic time. There are so many foods to choose, ranging from Bali traditional foods to American foods. Kibum rents a picnic kit, chooses some foods and snacks that he likes (and he thinks Jonghyun likes), pays for all the item he rents and buys, and then steps outside the store.
So now, there Kibum is, waiting for Jonghyun at the Central Park. He sits on a wooden bench right beside the welcoming statue. It is still around 8.45 a.m. on Kibum’s rubber watch. He has to wait about 15 minutes for his dino to come. Eventhough he still doesn’t know where they’re going to go, he is anticipating their meeting so much. And that is rare for him.
He waits patiently for Jonghyun while flipping the pages of his novel. The sun is getting higher and the air is getting hotter as now it’s 9.15 a.m., according to Kibum’s white band watch. Uh, he’s late?
Kibum isn’t a patient type of person. He has never been. One of the things he hates the most in the world is waiting. But since it’s Jonghyun he’s waiting for, Kibum really think he can bear that. He continues flipping pages on his book, distracting his mind from thinking of Jonghyun. But without warning, his mind is automatically filled with negative thoughts. Maybe Jonghyun get the place wrong? No, he thinks, he clearly said this place yesterday. Maybe he overslept? He wouldn’t, Kibum tries to convince himself. But it’s already 10 a.m. now! his mind shouts in his head. But he ends up waiting for Jonghyun again.
After one hour that lasts like forever, Kibum really can’t take it anymore. It’s already lunchtime, 11 a.m. He takes his cell phone out of his jeans pocket (again, for the eleventh time). He dials Jonghyun’s number (again, for the ninth time) because he really can’t and don’t want to wait anymore.
And (again!), it’s still out of reach. He doesn’t know why that stupid dino turns off his phone. He really wants to throw his phone to the ground (which he knows he shouldn’t do) because he is vey pissed right now. Jonghyun is too much. Why he broke his promise, made kibum wait for two hours and also turned off his cellphone? He really needs a logical explanation from that man. While holding his anger, Kibum stands up, stuffs his book into his bag and walks his way to Jonghyun’s cottage, carrying picnic basket on his right hand.
Just right when Kibum walks out the Park, Jonghyun shows up, sweat is everywhere on his face, even on his body. Kibum frowns to the scene in front of him, Jonghyun is panting hard and his face looks kinda pale. Kibum can’t hide his disappoinment in Jonghyun so he just stands there, staring at Jonghyun without saying anything.
Jonghyun, on the other place; wearing a red sweater and a deep blue jeans, standing right in front of Kibum while trying to wipe the sweat off from his face. He still hasn’t said anything yet while Kibum’s still waiting for his explanation in silence.
Just seconds later, Jonghyun breaks the silence between them with a simple “Sorry” between his unstable breath. Kibum shows his annoyed expression because he had to wait two whole hours for him. But well, he actually isn’t that mad to him.
“Why are you late? Did you forget what I said yesterday?” Kibum says to Jonghyun, picnic basket still in hand. “I’m sorry, Kibum. Really, really sorry. I...” Jonghyun seems unable to find the right word as Kibum’s stare is now piercing through his flesh. “... I... overslept...” Jonghyun’s trying to look away as he says that because he wants to avoid Kibum’s deadly stare. He believes it now, if stares can kill someone, he’d be dead by now.
“...Overslept?” Kibum asks him back with a deep, husky tone. He wants to make sure Jonghyun knows that he is overly annoyed.
Jonghyun takes a deep breath for a second before he finally answers Kibum’s question, “I’m sorry Kibum, really really sorry. I am truly sorry... I know, I really know I was wrong, I am wrong. I am so sorry for making you waiting two hours for me. I... didn’t have any intention to make you wait for me nor to break my promise... I - I’m sorry...,” he pauses for seconds, “I ran myself out when I realize it was alredy 11.30 a.m. I really wish I can make this up, I am truly sorry, please please please, forgive me, Kibum-ah....”
Jonghyun is not really sure if this is good enough to make Kibum forgive him. He has been trying to put his super begging expression plus his puppy eyes. But well, it’s Kibum. Only he himself and God who knows what that man would do.
Kibum looks into Jonghyun puppy eyes for seconds. His eyes are indeed beautiful; the fact that he’s now putting his puppy eyes on just make them more and more beautiful in Kibum’s own eyes. He feels like saying ‘It’s okay I am not mad at you baby’ to Jonghyun, but his pride isn’t allowing him to do so. He gotta looks like someone who is unwilling to forgive him. He won’t go too easy on him eventhough he won’t go too hard too.
“...Just, hurry up. I only rented this until 2 p.m.,” Kibum lifts his right hand and shows Jonghyun the picnic basket. Jonghyun’s face brightens up in an instant, “Okay, let’s go!” He then leads the way while Kibum walks behind him, secretly smiling.
“Heeeey, you have to speed up, you can’t walk that slow, Kibum-ah!”
Kibum lifts his head and looks at Jonghyun who is about two metres in front of him, “Don’t be so arrogant. You were the one that made us late in the first place!” Kibum let’s out his tounge while saying ‘merong’ to Jonghyun. Jonghyun laughs at Kibum’s reaction. He surely made the right choice by coming to this Island and meeting this man.
They arrive at the beach about fifteen minutes later. To their disappointment, today’s sun is shining too bright that now it is so hot, too hot; making it’s inappropriate to have a picnic on the beach.
Kibum lowers his cat-eye shaped sunglasses to look around the beach. Even if it is noon and the sun’s shining so bright, there are still a lot of people on the beach. Some of them are surfing, others are sunbathing and some are making sand castles. Kibum was going to cancel their beach picnic when he sees Jonghyun waving at him under a shade of a big red umbrella and coconut trees. Kibum approaches Jonghyun and then put their picnic basket on the white sand. The sand feels so soft and warm under his bare foot. He loves the atmosphere of this island. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, enjoying the smell of the burning sun on the white sand and the translucent blue water.
When Kibum opens his eyes and snaps back into reality, Jonghyun has already unpack everything from their picnic basket. The mat is placed perfectly on the sand and the foods are neatly arranged on it. Kibum smiles at Jonghyun, feeling that he really is happy about this picnic.
“Kibum-ah, why are you just staring at these? Come sit here! Hurry, hurry!” Jonghyun can’t hide his excitement. Kibum smiles seeing him acting like a little boy; he then takes a place beside Jonghyun, under the shade of the waving coconut tree.
Kibum unpacks their lunch; there are tuna sandwiches, some Bali traditional foods, lemonade, milk, and fresh fruits. “It’s your fault that we’re late. This was supposed to be breakfast, not lunch,” Kibum says while putting the empty picnic basket aside. Jonghyun grabs the first sandwich and bites it, “It’s alright, I haven’t eat my breakfast yet. This is still considered breakfast,” he munches the sandwich inside his big mouth, “at least for me.”
Kibum takes a bite of the fresh orange, “Why did you overslept then?”
Jonghyun looks up to him and stops eating for some time, “Don’t know, I just didn’t wake up when my alarm rang. I’m such a sleepy head, right? Sorry, Kibum-ah...”
“It’s okay, I’ve forgive you,” Kibum says as he drinks his milk. Jonghyun suddenly looks excited because Kibum forgives him so easily, something that he never imagines.
“...but, it’s not for free, you know!” Kibum adds, smirk automatically forms on his cat face. The sparks of happiness in Jonghyun’s face quickly disappears. He knows it from the start, Kibum will never forgive him THAT easily. Not even once. Why did he even think he would?
Jonghyun shows Kibum his mega pout, “What is it this time? You have always take advantage of me! You brat!!” Jonghyun highers his note at the end of the sentence. Kibum laughs at his puppy Jjong’s reaction. Jonghyun always thinks he is the one who can control him while the truth is Kibum is the one that always playing with him. “Well, it’s your problem, not mine,” Kibum ends his sentence while once again giving Jonghyun his best smirk of all time.
