Faded Square Tutorial for Photoshop

Jul 09, 2006 14:17

I must admit that I've finally figured out how to make these after loving them to death.
The credit for the idea (as far as I know) goes to 77words

For those of you that don't know what they are, here is an example:

*note: it doesn't include the black outline... that's just to show you the whole thing.\

I'm using Photoshop 7.0 but it is applicable to all photoshop versions :)

1. Start with a blank 100x100
2. Create a new layer
3. choose the "square" button (
) and make sure it is white fill
4. make a box any size (I'm doing 80x50)... It really doesn't matter the size
5. Now apply a stroke with these measurements:

I used the color: #A4A4A4
6.Your layers palatte should now look like this:

8. press the "merge visible" option
9. Now pick a round regular brush (making sure that it is still white). I picked size 21px

10. change the opacity of the brush and apply the brush to the areas of the square you want to vanish (the red areas I have circled):

11. You are finished. Your ending product should look something like this:

If you have any questions, just let me know... sometimes it's fun just to fiddle around and see what you get :).

If you just want some of the boxes, you can use mine. All I ask is that you give proper credit to ruby_icons.
