So today at about 5pm (half an hour before home time) my two bosses called me into their office and proceed to tell me that head office in Sydney has decided to change direction and that they require someone with a higher skill set to do payroll and other accountantcy duties, and as they do not have time to train me they are going to have to let me

Sorry you lost your job. It always really sucks when this happens, (I know, it's happened to me as well). Know it's *not* you and it could easily be whoever filled the position.

Businesses often do this, and it's quite common practice to do so fifteen minutes before the end of the day, and also closer to the end of the week usually (which is odd they told you Wednesday, but oh well). This is to ensure that you don't go and crack the shits and try and sabotage or cause damage to any key systems, programs or data. By doing it later in the week, they also tend to get the full week out of you.

Its really dirty. Business is dirty and it really does suck. I find it interesting to see that they did it five or so days before your probation ended and they had to step up their commitment to you, and probably agree that they have looked to fill that role with a temporary person for three months only to cut costs.

At the end of the day, sounds like you really didn't enjoy the actual role anyway, (but the friends you make are great aren't they) and there's stacks of things out there I'm sure you'll find click with you! Wish you all the best in hunting! :-)
