what you did to me made me see myself something different

Maybe I just don't get it, but I thought that there were more than two races in the U.S ( Read more... )

I follow creativephoto and I saw this today: http://www.livejournal.com/community/creativephoto/1894930.html?nc=2. I randomly clicked on your name and liked what I saw. I've been following more photography lately. I'm just drawn to certain photographers (to their styles, rather) and I want to see what they do.

I love being mixed. A few years ago, I was in line for coffee and this girl (also waiting in line) asked my ethnicity. I told her my list and then she shared hers (for she was also very mixed). Then, the girl behind us in line chimed in and said she was mixed as well (African American and Chinese - gorgeous combination, by the way!) and that she thought that people who were of such mixed backgrounds tended to be the most stunning and beautiful. That day really stands out in my mind because for a moment, there were people who understood and who I could talk with very openly about it (if only for ten minutes while in line for coffee). There is an odd sort of pull between fitting into all of these categories but at the same time not fitting into any of them... At times, it is thrilling because you love these cultures and each is yours to love. At other times, it is alienating because those cultures might not accept you because you aren't completely of them.

My main point with this post was that I don't want to be forced to claim one culture over the others, and I think that the way we classify race and ethnicity either need to be cleared up (since most don't actually know/think about the difference between the two) or revised.

thank you, makes me happy that some people like my pics!

i never had such a moment, where I met people mixed up like me. I'm living in Germany since 10 years and nobody knows that I'm not born here and have a lot of other ethnicities (my friends know it because I told them). it's interesting to meet someone :)
and it is so true, some people (especially the hungarian ones in my case) don't accept people like me because they are not completly hungarian, i never though abut that until someone told me about that.

Ok question: What does it take to get German citizenship? I ask because I was talking to a friend a few weeks ago and somehow citizenship in general came up. She said that in Germany, you are not granted citizenship for just having been born there. Your parents must also already be German citizens. Do you know anything about this?

you must have german parents or grandparents. for example people from turkey born in germany are not germans. but it is much more difficult, they are not giving the german citizenship to everybody with german parents ... for example an old woman, pure german, was rejected. i think because she was to old and the state does not want to pay for her. it's qute cruel i think.
oh, and you can marry a german man/woman. but you must be married with him/her 8 years i think until you get it XD
sorry, that's all I know
