fall - at last!

fri
dinner and drinks with zee - a feisty girlfren who's worked in an internet media company in ny for quite a while now, at menkui tei. though menkui doesn't quite have the buzz of kenka round the corner - and less izakaya than noodle shop - the food is really great (and pretty inexpensive). this time round it was sauteed cod, soft shell crab, grilled beef, and lemon chuhai. she had just finished work at 9pm but was still buzzing with so much energy it made me wonder if this lust for life was what made her come here in the first place. and she's all settled down after she got married - in a park! ... so we chatted till just past midnight when she caught the train back to brooklyn.

sat
brunch at the hoboken gourmet company with 32pencils. the weather was beautiful - all sunny and cool. he had the eggs provencal - essentially eggs benedict with smoked salmon, while i had the challah french toast with banana butterscotch (quite an awesome combination). then i walked around the village to check out the new housing works store.

dinner at the classic florent with a whole bunch of peeps - a landscape architect, a private banker, an interior designer and some. the landscape guy was just working on a bali villa and it was spooky that it was happening all over again. we had a vouvray (a bit too fruity but semi-dry, which i like) and an australian red. i had a duck rillette and the skirt steak. we had an adorable tall, strapping, and camp waiter - he was serious and funny all at once. the designer had his break after freelancing with an interior design firm with kips bay cred - it's not so much your columbia credentials but who you know here - that's how he feels, at least.

then it was off to some drinks place round the corner (a new-ish place) - the basement was all white tiled and lit in pink (kinda reminded me of fluid, the defunct vodka bar on purvis which was quite fun). with tiny white inflated balloons floating on a pool in the centre. strong mojitos, mixed crowd, ok music. left after a while cos banker was tired as he had just flown in.

sun
terrible. had mooncakes with coffee for breakfast. read the weekend times - the gay nuptials were quite interesting today. finally put up the curtains today - privacy at last!

ps hope to post some pics next time - been kinda lazy...
