NFL: [Brett Favre Traded to the Jets| Chad Pennington Released]

Green Bay will now know a new era: AF. After Farve.

Late last night, Ted Thompson signed the papers over to release Brett Farve. Despite talk that he might end up here in Tampa Bay with his friend Jon Gruden, he is now in NY--rather now, New Jersey--and wearing Green and White.

In a press conference today, Owner, Manager, and Coach of the Green Bay Packers answered questions for the press, expressing regret that a deal couldn't be brokered. Repeatedly it was said that a deal, "never got to a point" where Farve's commitment to playing in Green Bay was assured.

The plan to retire the #4 Jersey tonight at Green Bay's pre-season game has been postponed.

With the aquisition of Farve, the Jets have released Chad Pennington to make room on the salary cap. The Miami Dolphins have expressed intrest in him. The Dolphins last week gave NFL outcast Quincy Carter a workout. Carter played for the Dallas Cowboys when Parcells was their coach.

Many viewed Carter's tryout as indicative of the Dolphins' displeasure with their quarterback competition. McCown has been erratic, while Beck has struggled. Henne, it can be argued, is having the best camp.

Contact with Pennington's agent has been made but no details as of yet.

Jay Feely will sit out again today in practice and quite possibly on Saturday's game vs. the Bucs. The kicker is nursing a groin injury. Dan Carpenter, an undrafted rookie from Montana appears to be closing the gap in the fight for the Miami kicking job.
