You have to understand, this movie is just a lot funnier due to the fact that the so-called fundamentalist Jesus figure in the movie, his name is Carl. That is about a million jokes in itself.I mean...c'mon. Carl. The son that Joseph never loved, because he was paying too much attention to Jesus [insert Real World reference here]. And I must say, Ice- T did an excellent job of pointing to things and having long hair. Then Keanu Reeves. That's a joke in itself.
This movie was definitely the prelude to The Matrix, considering it's the same concept, only we have a Jesus figure named Carl (who is a villian by the way).
I suggest you go see it. Right now. Stop what you're doing.
