HAHAHAH!
last semester i submitted an application to this mentoring program that's held at a local school. the application said a car was absolutely necessary, but fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants me figured i could just take the bus. found out this semester there isn't a bus route by the school. i contacted the coordinator today, perhaps a few weeks late, apologized for taking so long, said my transportation plans fell through, and expressed my desire to participate in a volunteer program locally. he wrote this shit back:
Unfortunately, it is too late into the semester to undertake any volunteer
programs. Your application has been withdrawn.

now how is that in the nature of altruism? but then i replied with this gem:
I'm sorry, but 'too,' 'late,' and, 'volunteer,' are words that will never find themselves in a sentiment expressed by me; unless that sentiment happens to be: "it is never too late to volunteer." I'll search for volunteer work through a different program.
