The next morning, Liz came flying out of doors of the apartment complex and run towards the White Building. Her alarm clock had magically failed to go off this morning so she was running late. Okay so she woke up at 10:30 but that’s okay she could make up for last time.

She plowed thought the crowd streets as it was always clouded with smokers and the other drug addicts. She tried to be careful not to step on anyone which she succeeded at until she made it to the last cross walk to get to the building. As she darted against the street, she elbowed someone in the side causing them to drop their books. The fall happened in slow motion until the books hit the ground and the paper flew everywhere.

‘Great’ she thought ‘Just great.’ She leaned down and started to help the guy pick up his things. “Sorry about that. I didn’t see you there.” She looked to the rather ratty looking shoes up to the black sweats, past the white gamer shirt up to see the unshaved face of Greg. His blue eyes watched her every movement that she made as she stood back up and handed him his stuff. This guy gave her an uneasy feeling with his smile full of crooked yellow teeth. His white blonde hair looked as if it needed a good wash and brush for a few days. She smiled as she walked away not even waiting for a response. ‘No thanks, just make a quick get away.’

She ran up the stairs and into the class where the teacher just looked at her oddly. Liz smiled sweetly and took a seat in the nearest to the front. The teacher stood up at the front of the class to call role. This gave Liz a chance to look around to see who was there.

As she turned to look around, she caught those icy blue eyes from a yesterday staring right at her. She could only smile and blush at this stare. She also noticed that he was in a well pressed dark green ROTC uniform, which almost caused her to drool.

“Please answer with a here or present when I call your name.” The teacher adjusted her glasses as she stared down the role that the register had given her. Her voice droned on with names, until there was a pause. Liz looked up to see why, and saw Greg walk in. He quickly took a seat on the left of her while the teacher just cleared her throat.
“Alex Davis” The teacher called as she looked around. Liz froze as she heard the familiar voice response “Here”. Liz slowly turned to look at Mr. Icy Blue and the guy sitting behind him…also in a dark green uniform. ‘Ah shit’ she thought as she smiled at the dirty blonde, hazel eyed guy known as Alex. He hadn’t change much since they last talked...almost a year again. His figure was still bulky and muscular but where one stopped and the other started she could never tell.

‘Okay creep guy next to me, my ex is sitting next to the guy I’d like to get to know better and...what else could go wrong?’ Liz thought as she looked back over to them to see them both looking at her and talking to one another. She shook her head as she realized she should have kept her mouth shut. Some other names where called off that she didn’t know either but a few she did; Greg, obviously. and Jack Johnson, her best friend since they met in high school. Jack was a tall and skinny kid with dark brown hair and eyes. He had taken martial arts for a few years and was killer at ddr. She turned around to see him in the back and waved to him. He was sitting against the far wall and smiled oddly at her.

“Matthew Murphy.” That name stuck with her as she looked around to see who it was. Sure enough it was Mr. Icy Blue.

“Call me Matt, if you don’t mind.” He smiled at the teacher as he fixed his name badge on his uniform.

“Alright, Matt. Umm…Elizabeth Robins...” The teacher looked around then smiled.

“Liz.” Liz muttered at the teacher, who just made a note of it.

“I though I saw the Liziban in here.” A rather snobbish voice broke the silence as she let out one of her preppy laughs. Liz looked over to see Michelle Givens.

“I thought it smelled like bad dye and cigarettes in here, or is that bleach?” Liz smirked as Michelle just rolled her eyes. Michelle was the room mate that dated the gay guy. She was alright at first but then she got her designer clothes, her hair dyed and those nice color changing contacts. Ever since then, they could never see eye to eye on anything.

“Alright, girls, put the claws away. We’re about to have class here.” The teacher put her foot down as Liz just smiled. The teacher started to go over the syllabus for the class, while everyone else zoned out. Liz opened her notebook labeled stories to look over a few pages that she had written last quarter.

By page 7 or 8, the teacher was still talking about what she thought the students should get out of the class. By this time, Greg was almost finished with his book, Alex was fast asleep and Jack...well Jack was being Jack.

By the time she was finished almost everyone was asleep. Liz’s eyes rose up to the moving object as the teacher picked up a book and slammed it down on the desk. Liz smirked, as most the class jumped at the sound. “Now that I have everyone’s attention let’s start taking notes.” Liz shook her head and smiled as she swapped out notebooks. She hoped Math and Accounting were going to be this exciting. She closed her eyes for just a moment then heard the teacher say class was over. ‘Interesting ’she looked down at her watch and sure enough it was time to go.

As she stood up, she watched Greg zoom by her and disappear out the door. ‘He always was in a hurry.’ She looked back at Jack who was stretching, then to the other two who were laughing about something. Then there was Michelle who had her eyes on Matt as well. She had on a smug smile as she went to go talk to him.

“Let’s go get lunch Liz.” Jack placed a hand on her shoulder and made her jump a mile “We have a lot to catch up on.”

She looked to him with a smile. “Lead the way, Sir Jack.” She had always teased him about being a knight or paladin since the days when they use to play dungeons and dragons together in high school. They even got accepted into the same college but hadn’t seen that much of each other since their freshman year.

“You seem more distracted then normal.” Jack raised a brow as he took a seat in front of her in the cafe. Lucky, the White building was also one of the sites with the school provided food.

“Five minute walk and we’re already on the same page.” Liz smiled as she looked down at what the school called Mac and cheese with a questionable look. “Well works been keeping my rather busy and” She yawned “Excuse me, just haven’t had a lot of time to myself.”

“Guy issues, getting any better?” Jack picked at his food as his eye refocused on her.

“Same as always and you?”

“Met a current named Rachel. She’s supposed to be coming here in a few weeks to meet.” He smiled as soon as he mentioned her name. It had been a long time since Liz had seen the boy smile much less be happy. As they talked, most about Rachel, Liz made an odd face when she found out it was an internet thing. If he was happy, then that’s all that should really matter.

Time seem to fly by as they talked, until Liz looked down at her watch. She looked back to his with a soft sigh. He just nodded, “We should do this again sometime.”

“Sounds like a plan, or we could just do this after every class.” She smiled as she looked around for a coke machine. “I don’t work this Friday...maybe we should go and catch a movie.”

“Maybe, take it easy.” Jack called as Liz got up. She dumped her trash headed back upstairs to go the next class. Jack was always a good guy to hang out with but always so quiet. That’s why Liz liked him so much. While quiet, he also serviced as a voice of reason and someone to talk to about anything. So why could she tell him about last night?
