Europe pt. 1

Greetings from Europe!

I'm going to keep this short, since I'm at Stansted Airport at an internet kiosk.

I've spent the last 3 days in Holland with my family. The flight over was nothing special, except for the fact that Luftansa severly undelivered on the prospect of a "comfortable acbin ride". Also, I was seated next to a Russian gereatric who spoke no english and kept offering me her dessert. I'm pretty sure she was trying to buy my protection, Gulag style.

Sitting behind me was a 20 year old girl (not hot) from the self proclaimed "Ghettos" of London Ontario.

Anyways, Holland was amazing. I finally got to meet my father's side of the family. My cousins seem pretty cool for the most part. Spent most of the time driving around the Dutch countryside looking at picturesque Dutch towns and exploring the Polderland (POHL-dur-land), which means "Land reclaimed from the sea".

It's pretty interesting actually. When they run out of Farmlands, the Dutch damn off a section of the North Sea with a Dyke and then use windmills to pump the water back into the sea. They then wait for the salt to dissolve out of the seabed, a process which takes 5-10 years.

A bit of a drama this morning on the flight to London. When the flight was taking off it shifted dramatically to the right. Mid-flight we were informed that the Amsterdam flight control had found pieces of tire scattered along the runway and that it was possible we lost multiple tires. We were then re-shown the brace position and told we'd be making an emergency landing at Heathrow.

As soon as the landing gear went down the plane started to fishtail wildly, but our surehanded and suprisingly sober pilot held it togther for a bumpy but successful landing on the Heathrow emergency runway where we were greeted with a half-dozen firetrucks, a half-dozen ambulances, and some police cars. Apparently we lost two of our right tires upon take off.

What was funny was that we had to Taxi to our gate (20 minutes away) surrounded by Firetrucks, Ambulance and Police. Clearly they were aware of my Rockstar like international status, as re-enforced by my "Without me its just Aweso" T-Shirt.

Anyways, I got to run and catch my flight. I'll post pictures when I get a chance, but I suspect that won't be until Spain.

Please note that my cellphone DOES NOT WORK in Europe and I am flying with my Dad's. That means my Dad has mine, so please keep the phonecalls to emergancy only.

Until next time...
