jeux d'enfants (love me if you dare)cast: guillaume canet, marion cotillard
what imdb says: As adults, best friends Julien and Sophie continue the odd game they started as children -- a fearless competition to outdo one another with daring and outrageous stunts. While they often act out to relieve one another's pain, their game might be a way to avoid the fact that they are truly meant for one another
- This movie was absolutely insane. I have no idea where I heard of it or why I was so inclined to see it, but I am so glad I did. It was cute but also sort of disturbing, but just my type of movie (does that make me crazy?)
- Let me explain. This is a story of love at first sight. I mean, that's how I perceived it. But love like that cannot be simple, and childhood is a lot more complicated than it seems. This movie picks up on all of that.
- The love of the game of dares, and the love of each other keeps Julien and Sophie going. It's intense. What starts as a simple game of dares goes way, way too far. People almost die... But through it all, you always root for them. Root for them to get through the dares in one piece, and root for them to just love each other. I think that says it all. These people are not only crazy, they are crazy in love but blinded by the game.
- This movie was made possible by the absolute adorability of it's main actors. It makes me want to be french and wear cool ass outfits like Marion.
- The soundtrack to this movie is fueled by the song La Vie En Rose (this is partially hilarious because, after filming this, Marion went on to win the Oscar for portraying Edith Piaf). Anyway, there's a bunch of different versions, the characters sing it to each other and the movie is tied to the song. It's beautiful. I love the song and I love the movie for loving it, and utilizing it so masterfully.
- The movie is also beautiful. The colors and imagery throughout are fluid and perfectly toned. Color is effective when used well, and this movie makes color it's bitch. It's awesome
- My very favorite part of the movie, and the best quote of all time (even better because it's this long winded french masterpiece of words that is both hilarious and adorable) comes during a wild car chase scene. INSANE! If you still want to see the movie, look away! You need to experience it yourself! But here it is, if you have no desire to see it hopefully this will change your mind:
Sophie was back in the game! Pure, raw, explosive pleasure! Better than drugs, better than smack! Better than a dope-coke-crack-fix-shit-shoot-sniff-ganja-marijuana-blotter-acid-ecstasy! Better than sex, head, 69, orgies, masturbation, tantrism, Kama Sutra or Thai doggy-style! Better than banana milkshakes! Better than George Lucas's trilogy, the muppets and 2001! Better than Emma Peel, Marilyn, Lara Croft and Cindy Crawford's beauty mark! Better than the B-side to Abbey Road, Jimmy Hendrix and the first man on the moon! Space Mountain, Santa Claus, Bill Gates' fortune, the Dalai Lama, Lazarus raised from the dead! Schwarzenegger's testosterone shots, Pam Anderson's lips! Woodstock, raves... Better than Sade, Rimbaud, Morrison and Castaneda! Better than freedom, better than life!
- Who wouldn't want a love like that?
