truly, madly, deeplycast: alan rickman, juliet stevenson
what imdb says: Nina, an interpreter, is beside herself with grief at the recent death of her boyfriend, Jamie, a cellist. When it appears that she is no longer able to cope with life, Jamie reappears as a "ghost" and the couple are reconciled.
- It's been well documented that I love Alan Rickman. I've seen... well lets just say a lot, of his movies. And even though most of these movies are considerably shitty, I will admit this and move on, still continuing my deep admiration of this brit. This movie, eh, actually not so shitty. Here's Why:
- I was honestly expecting this to be really cheesy because you think that she's just going to go on loving her ghost, but there's an underlying reason why ghost!jamie comes back. A freakishly adorable reason. I won't spoil it though. Go watch this movie.
- Ahem, anyway. I also think that because it took me so long to see this movie, and I've wanted to for a while, I'm slightly biased through my excitement of achieving that goal. And I haven't seen an Alan movie that is new to me in quite some time, while I see new Meryl movies all the time. This movie was a treat, especially considering that it isn't available on DVD or even VHS anymore.
- Apparently, according to everyones favorite source -- wikipedia -- it's considered the British Ghost. (Even, "Ghost for people who can do crosswords" LOL) Now, technically, I've never seen Ghost but this probably isn't far from the truth. It's a really smart movie about grief and moving on. It's touching and funny and sweet. And check out that poster image. Highly Amusing.
- Best part of the movie, for sure, is the game they play at the window. They go back and forth adding adjectives about how they love each other, until one of them messes up (Alan forgets deeply). It's really cute. Especially since the last adjective he adds on is juicily.
- The movie is basically an outlet to show how awesome Juliet is at playing the piano and being generally awesome. It works. The Cello/Piano piece that is repeated throughout the movie has been on my itunes for a while, and I've never loved it more until I saw the scene that it accompanies.
- It was a great movie overall, but a terrific Alan movie. Now I have to see other Alan movies of suspiciously low standards. Damn. :)
