I finally called the ortho again for my knee issue from last year. It's still giving me problems, popping out of place, wobbly on stairs, around corners, off of curbs, etc. It's not painful in the least, unless I twist it, and then holymotherofdog. The brace I got from
gretchenshah has been really helpful, when I use it. It's still pretty hot and cumbersome. My "straight" leg extends more than 180, and it bends left and right, too. So, yeah, not good.
I had to get another referral from my PCP (over the phone) and went in for my appointment last Wednesday. "Yep, something's wrong, let's get an MRI. Go across the hall and make an appointment."
Trudged ALL the way across that hall and asked for an MRI. "How's tomorrow at 3?" Sounds good! I dumped the kids at a friends and went in. It was odd, WAY louder than I had imagined, but it was nice to be cold enough to need a blanket when it was 100 outside.
I had the followup to get the results on Wednesday. Definitely a torn ACL, there's fluid built up around the knee and starting to bother the meniscus, so he recommends surgery ASAP. *sigh*
Physical therapy 2-3x/wk, before and up to 6mo after surgery, up to a week on crutches, 3 months of "really taking it easy" and 9 months to fully heal. It would be an outpatient procedure, same day, general anesthesia.
I have NO idea how I'm going to manage an hour 2-3x/wk with the kids. Lots of people have already jumped up to deal with the immediate (my parents offered to come up, M can take off of work, local friends are ready and waiting), but GAH, 6 months is a long freakin' time. Not to mention it's summer and everything I want to be doing will be a no-no. I guess it's kind of a no-no anyway in that I shouldn't injure it further, but it'll be a lot more strict post-surgery.
I need to call back and schedule the surgery and figure out when the troops are most available to rally. Part of me wants to wait until E's eating solids (instead of batting them around like a cat with a mouse), but I could come up with 1000 more excuses to wait, too. It's made worse by being overweight, but exercise is more difficult with the knee, good ol' vicious circle going there. It's definitely Time, though, once and for all, to get serious about losing weight.
I don't even have a cool being-chased-by-wild-grizzlies-while-skiing story. I tripped in a damn toy store.
