I want to say a lot of things today, but I'm having problems feeling particularly up to going into long discussion. Here's the short bits.

* I wanted to write a parody of "When Doves Cry" called "When Firewalls Die."

* Today I just shouldn't have gotten out of bed. I wake up at 5:30 to hear kitalamina having the same conversation that I went to bed with at midnight, which frustrates me to no end and forces me to wake up. I get up and take it easy, get into a nice conversation/tease with acri, and... just as I'm really starting to pour it on, I get a call from work. The firewall died. The ancient, possibly 15-year-old firewall whose support was discontinued in 1998 with spotty documentation and which we were not allowed to replace, seems to had burnt out its "out" port.

20 minutes later I'm sitting at work, hair still dripping. Joy.

It took about an hour to get the Net back up with bits and pieces of things we had around the office. It took the rest of the day to get the mail server back up. Wasn't pretty in the slightest either, what we ended up doing. It's going to be a long day tomorrow trying to even think of elegant solutions.

* I want to write about how well Dance Dance Revolution compares with hypnosis: it's bright and colorful and flashy and attractive and draws you in... and requires absolute devotion and dedication, commenting about your every step and misstep, hounding you (booing you!) if you don't follow orders well enough, aren't following the pretty lights as they scroll up the screen... moving yourself to the sound of the beat, absolutely compelled to hit everything just perfect...obeying its instructions, sometimes in the face of the music doing otherwise...floating between the beat and the subbeat and the melody, drawing you in... anyway.

* May have hypnotized yet another person yesterday... honestly, do I just naturally have a soft spot in my heart for would-be hypnoslaves? ;)
