jullandershere, I finished it! Ok, I have to say that I do agree with you - it is a good book. That being said, if this book were written now it would have been much shorter. The editor would have nixed a ton of the pages. It took me over 200 pages to actually get invested in the story, and I admit to glazing over much of the historical and social stuff, but it was a good read. I can now cross Les Misérables off my list.
For the past year or so I've been trying to read more classics/influential/relevant books and less drivel. There are so many wonderful tomes, I could read every minute for the rest of my life and never get them all in. Next on the list will likely be one of these:
- Lolita
- Outlander
- Sons and Daughters
- The Count of Monte Cristo
- Anna Karenina
- The Silmarillion
- The Call of Cthulhu and Other Dark Tales
- Frankenstein
Any thoughts?
