comis, tv rambling

For some reason, my (chicken) soup turned out even more tasty than usual. I'm now eating on the second small batch which has sausage and potatoes added.

Another mostly rainy day. Went to the library & got a Terry Pratchett book. I started off the year reading 3 of his books. I'd never read one before, but Katie was sure I would love his writing. I also got Vol. 1 of Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus. If you don't know Jack Kirby, then you fail at comics. He was a major factor in Marvel's rise during the 70's and co-created The Fantastic Four and the Hulk among other titles. I didn't appreciate his boxy style when I was really young, and I felt somewhat betrayed when he jumped to DC. However, I also fell in love with the New Gods and Mr. Miracle. This Omnibus edition of his Darkseid stories is presented chronologically and includes his work on a Jimmy Olsen comic which I didn't collect back in the day. The library has at least 4 volumes and I'm really going to geek out enjoy reading them.

Katie, I also got you the new Book Pages while I was there.

Last night's Hell's Kitchen was awesome. I liked Ji, but she got injured. Paula and Danny were the only other two contestants worth a crap. I'm really looking forward to the season finale next week. I think Paula has a slight edge, but it's really too close to call.

The final episode of the very brief Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword was also awesome. The first two eps will be on this Thursday the 14th (hopefully meaning that the other four will be shown over the next couple of weeks). It's worth checking out. What I really like is that they don't try to do too much. It's fun and silly and lampoons the conventions of the hero/adventurer tale. And Dongalor (the bad guy) is worth the price of admission. I hope there will be another season because this was a fun show.

Dollhouse tonight. That should be good.

They showed some previews for the new Mike Judge (Beavis & Butthead; King of the Hill) show, the Goode Family. It looks like it will be even better than I hoped for. It's about a family that tries to do the right thing (apparently the uber-liberal and pc thing) but generally comes up short. The show starts W May 27.

This is season finale week and I don't know what I'll do without new Fringe or Old Christine. I think the people doing House really need to re-tool the show. Hugh Laurie is still awesome, but the show is floundering. I'm really glad that L&O:CI is back. I was a little apprehensive about Jeff Goldblum as the new detective, but he's doing a really good job. And Goren is one of my favorite characters on TV.

Things I'm looking forward to this summer: The Goode Family, Top Chef Masters, Merlin (with Anthony Head as Arthur's father), Warehouse 13, Eureka and Hell's Kitchen season 6.

Burn Notice will have a new season, but I still have to watch seasons 2 & 3. Flipping Out and Psych are also due sometime this summer, and I really can't wait for Caprica.

And Sunday is now "Mighty Booshday"! This sunday, A/S jumps back to season 1 (they starteed with season 3 for some reason). As far as I'm concerned, they can just leave Boosh in the 1am slot.
