[The Vesmier] Day 4362 of my captivity…

Dec 09, 2007 20:34

…and I am wearing the same ridiculous robes, sitting through the same ridiculous state dinner, and waiting to present my request for presentation before the High Council. The argument du jour is that Gallifrey must continue to expand its circle of influence or we risk losing the edge of advancement that allowed us to assume the role of Time Lords ( Read more... )

I was trying to be polite by saying thank you, no need to go on and be snarky, now is there?

Don't sigh at me, thank you. You got snarky when I was saying thank you. Didn't you ever learn manners?

[The Vesmier] Do you think I climbed to the top of the Gallifreyan political ladder by virtue of familial connections?

Fair enough, you have done an impressive bit from what I can understand. Which isn't much mind, but really it must be wonderful. You still didn't need to get snarky though.

Tenth Doctor: Er, hello! *waves*

The Vesmier implied you were looking for a Doctor? Can't say I'm the one you might need, considering that when we get into multiple universes, things are a bit more... wibbly-wobbly than usual, but if there's any way I could help...?

Any chance you can tell me why I'm seeing things that I shouldn't be seeing? Like...I dunno, probabilities that shouldn't come into effect? I'm really starting to get freaked out by my own deaths. That and I can see...foot prints of people everywhere...and foot prints that haven't been made yet. My eyes are crossed and my head is killing me.

Tenth Doctor: ...When did this start?

Do you remember... Station Five, and the Daleks? Was it after that? More recent?

I remember everything now, Doctor. I remember the TARDIS looking back into me and seeing things I shouldn't have seen? I remember being born. I remember being in the womb. Doctor, I remember the Time Vortex in my head. Dividing cells of the Daleks, bringing Jack back...Watching you change. All of it.

Tenth Doctor: Might just be the sudden rush of memories from being... Here, in this space. Could be you're seeing all the variations of you and their own timelines just by virtue of being in a space outside yours.

Could also be that the Vortex isn't... entirely gone. There's a variant of you somewhere that had something like that happen to her, but for her, she just couldn't stand to be away from the TARDIS for long. It... hurt her, if she tried. But if that's causing this... Well. No point in worrying until we know for sure.

Right then....
A million and two different possibilities and not a one makes me feel really very comfortable.

I don't hardly sleep anymore, or eat. I don't need to. I'm seeing futures and pasts and nows and thens and hasn't beens and might bes and coulda beens and can bes at really random moments for really random people.

Doctor, something tells me I'm not meant to be seeing this. I can hardly handle it, really. It's going to drive me mad eventually. And I'm really quite fed up with Torchwood trying to figure out where they keep getting weird energy spike readings from.

Tenth Doctor: ...That sounds like the Vortex to me.

RIGHT, then. There's probably not an easy way for me to get it out of you, a universe away... But, in the meantime...

I'm wondering if one of the tricks they taught us at the Academy might work for you, honestly. Does it feel like... Like when you look at something, it all just unfolds? Possibility upon possibility, like taking apart one of those little origami things?

It feels like...Looking at a slide show...only every time a new picture pops up, a million more sprout off it. If I'm looking at picture A then I also see picture A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10, A11, A12, A13.... and so on. And then A1 become A1A, A1B, A1C, A1D, A1E, A1F, A1G and it just never stops.
And then comes picture B. And the same thing happens all over again. Until I want to SCREAM....

But before I can scream a picture will catch my eye and I'll be caught in it all over again until something snaps me out of it.
It doesn't happen all the time yet, but it happens more and more as time goes on.
