Ending this journey
What a fiasco. Singapore Idol's bottom three for tonight were by far the three best singers in the competition, while the top three were noticeably better looking and far weaker in terms of vocals. What the hell?
I can't say i'm very surprised, even though i am extremely miffed. Over the past few weeks, the majority of the people who i talk to about the show respond with a "You watch Singapore Idol?!??". I would have done the exact same thing before i got hooked... back in the holidays it was a hour long bus ride home every day after work, and i caught the show on the bus every week, and err, got a little caught up. ^^
But this just tells me that most people (as i told joshua, the intelligent discerning audience) have nothing but scorn for this show. And considering who the final few contestants are looking to be, they're perfectly justified. Here's the thing. On the results show, the hosts were extremely obvious in talking about voting for the right person, for quality, for people who could actually sing. Daniel (that DJ guy) in particular got a leetle worked up at one point. And the show ended with the girl with the biggest voice getting voted off.
I can't help thinking that the producers or judges or whoever picked the finalists brought this upon themselves. The age bracket of the singers range from 16-28, with more of the final 12 below 20 than above. If you look at the bottom three tonight, they were the three oldest contestants - leaving the remaining four teens. And that's just it. This isn't a Singapore Idol competition, it's bloody Teen Idol. And really, if you admitted so darn many young people, all easy on the eyes, which results in the majority of your viewing audience being screaming rabid fangirls, then this is what you reap.
After this season ends, (and i have no doubt it will end badly), the competition becomes even more of a joke. Hady, Jonathan, and more than the two of them - Mathilda - deserved to be in the final three. Hady is just average to me, but gives consistent performances week after week. Jonathan has a better voice, but hasn't really been up to scratch the past three or so shows. I am annoyed, annoyed, annoyed, and i was sickened as i listened to Mathilda sing her last song.
I'm not sure if i can bring myself to keep watching. I'm a suckrr for punishment though, so... sigh.
