FanFic50 - Blood Ties - Prompt 043 - Spirit

She fought like a wildcat… There were four of them, and she was a half-blind ex police officer and she took them all down. Armed with her asp in one hand and the sword she’d pulled from Henry’s stomach in the other she ‘sliced and diced’ the four demons.

Through pained eyes Henry watched her, once again in awe of the strength of her spirit. In all his centuries he had yet to find her equal. Now if he could get her to show the same tenacity with passion, well they may never leave his bed… That thought caused him to groan.

“Henry, oh God are you ok?” Vicki was quickly kneeling by his side, helping him to sit up.

“I’m fine… just weak.”

It came as no surprise to him when Vicki held her wrist out. “I’d rather drink from here,” he replied, weakly pushing her hair back from her neck.

“Who am I to deny a half-dead vampire,” quipped Vicki, although her voice shook slightly.

He knew what she feared; the passion she felt yet resolutely denied. It was the only chink in her otherwise impenetrable spirit.

“I’ll only take enough to help me heal,” he whispered, leaning forward and nuzzling her neck. He felt her nervous swallow as his fangs extended.

Vicki gasped and grabbed his thigh as the sharp fangs pierced her throat.

Hot, delicious blood flowed over his tongue. Henry savoured every drop, tasting all the strength, spirit, and passion that made Vicki Nelson. True to his word, he released her neck, very reluctantly, as his wounds began healing. “Thank you Vicki,” he whispered, pressing a soft lingering kiss against the closing marks.

Vicki sighed softly and calm fell over the pair. A few minutes passed when a car horn sounding not too far in the distance snapped them back to reality. “We should get you home,” Henry said quietly, standing up.

Vicki nodded and slowly got to her feet.

Ten minutes later they were in Henry’s car, heading towards Vicki’s place.

“That was impressive with the demons Vicki,” he said after the silence had gotten to him.

“It might not have been so messy Henry if you had just waited for me. They could have been taken out quicker and without you getting stabbed.” She had softened her tone but the intent of her words was still there. Out of the corner of her eye she saw his hands tighten on the steering wheel and inwardly winced. “I mean Henry, it’s usually me that goes in head first…”

Her words had the desired effect and he loosened his grip on the wheel.  “I must be hanging around you too much Vicki, your cavalier approach has rubbed off on me…” He paused for a moment, glancing over at her briefly turning his attention back to the road. “I’m sorry,” he said, and delighted in the small smile that appeared on her face.

A more comparable silence settled over them and they reached Vicki’s apartment moments later.

Henry was out of the car and opening her door just as Vicki realised they had actually stopped.  “Thanks,” she murmured, taking his offered hand. “You don’t need to see me right to the door Henry, I’m sure you’re not 100% recovered, you need to get home.”

“Me, a gentleman and a prince, let a woman walk unaccompanied to the door,” he said while clasping his chest in mock drama… “Never,” and offered her his arm, grinning as he did. Henry planned on staying and seeing if he could coax a spirited response from his beautiful warrior queen.

Vicki rolled her eyes and took it.

“And when we get inside we can discuss this cavalier nature of yours for always rushing in without waiting for help…”  He commented, and his laugher was drowned out by Vicki’s choking sound of indignation.
