This summer

My parents are coming to visit this summer. They're going to fly into London and stay with my sister a few days, then head up to Scotland, down to France, back to London and then over to Dublin. It's their first proper holiday since my dad's (latest) retirement and because they're weird, they want to spend the whole thing with their kids. So we've been plotting the trip the past couple days.

The cool thing about this, apart from just that I'll be getting to spend so much time with them, is that they have the same approach to travelling as I do. They think that getting there is half the fun, and that planes are something you take only when you're pressed for time. Which means we're doing the whole journey by train, except for the ferry crossing to Ireland.

I've done all this so many times. But not for years. I can remember a time when I was thoroughly sick of that London-Glasgow train. But now I can't wait to do it again. It'll be just like my student days! Except with someone else around to pay for the sandwiches.
