田中芳樹さんの人気小説「銀河英雄伝説」の新アニメプロジェクト「銀河英雄伝説 Die Neue These（ディ・ノイエ・テーゼ）」シリーズの第1シーズン「邂逅」が、テレビアニメとして2018年4月から放送されることが9月20日、明らかになった。第1シーズンは18年4～6月に全12話を放送し、第2シーズン「銀河英雄伝説 Die Neue These 星乱」は19年に全3章、全12話構成としてイベント上映する。また、宮野真守さんがラインハルト、鈴村健一さんがヤン・ウェンリー、梅原裕一郎さんがキルヒアイスをそれぞれ演じることも発表された。
新アニメプロジェクトのPVも公開。ラインハルトとキルヒアイス、ヤンが登場するほか、宇宙空間での艦隊戦が描かれている。「銀河英雄伝説 」の朗読を行ってきた下山吉光さんがナレーションを担当する。
20日、東京都内で開かれたイベントで発表された。イベントには、原作者の田中さん、新アニメを手がける多田俊介監督に加え、前作でラインハルトを演じた堀川りょうさん、キルヒアイス役の広中雅志さん、ユリアン役の佐々木望さんも出席した。
「銀河英雄伝説」は、銀河帝国の“常勝の天才”ラインハルトと自由惑星同盟の“不敗の魔術師”ヤン・ウェンリーの対決を中心に銀河の興亡を描いた作品。1988年からアニメ化され、本編110話、外伝52話、劇場版3作が製作された。新アニメはProduction I.Gが制作する。
