Sometimes people in this community ask for movies
with accompanying transcripts. I've found a nice
site that publishes scripts to television series,
so let me present it with a short review of an
episode that gave me a good laugh recently.
THIS IS FOR more or less ADVANCED English students.
The language though peppered with slang terms is
not overly difficult, but one of the main characters,
a London-based "grifter" Danny (actually one of the
5 characters comprising a long con team) speaks with
working-class accent, and that is a challenge indeed.
This BBC TV series produced in the 2000s was quite
popular and is known in Russia as "Виртуозы", the
original name being "Hustle" (which is a slang term
for a con or swindle).
A team of "grifters" (or "con men", though actually
one of their number, "the lure", is a woman called Stacey)
has a day to idle away waiting for their mark to
come up with money. Everyone is feeling bored, and
some rivalry is boiling up between the two most
talented young men in the group. And then the oldest
of them remembers of the Albert's Challenge which
should help them resolve the issue...

You can also find all show seasons dubbed in Russian,
but they look really bland, spoiled by mediocre
translation: while the general meaning is conveyed,
no appropriate Russian slang is ever used (e.g. they
never even thought of calling "mark" "фраером" или "лохом").
This bleak, insipid language saps lots of humour out
of jokes (even where the translators could understand
them), and makes it for a noticeably less entertaining
viewing
One last point. Not all seasons are equally good,
my favourite are the second and third ones, and
the episode I presented is probably the best overall:
all pure fun, and lots of "educational value"
to top it off: while Danny is running the streets
of London you can learn a lot about "short cons"
to look out for in your real lives.
