Fic Recommendations

GENERAL FIC:

Unmade by
entangled_now (Peter, Sylar, only mild slash at best). A moderate lengthed epic about Peter and Sylar locked in a room, with nothing but a window between them. Something that simple provokes amazing psychological study and shows how far two men will go to escape from a living hell.

This Is Getting To Be A Habit by futuresoon (Heroes/House Crossover. Peter, Nathan, The Cast of House). I was just getting into House when I stumbled across this fic and I was blown away. If you’re a House fan, you really must read it because every character’s voice is EXACTLY like it is on the show. The research and care taken with this story is incredible, and tying in the Heroes elements with Peter’s illness almost makes you believe that you’re watching an episode of House. Like I said, a must-read for any fans of both shows.

Gears Grind Down To Rust by matchsticks_p (Nathan, with Peter and Sylar): The best representation of Sy!Nathan I’ve seen to date. A wonderfully horrific little ficlet that shows Nathan’s inner struggle as he loses who he is.

Mediator by boonies (Peter, Sylar, Claire): Peter and Sylar take Claire to the movies. Fun and cracky and nothing beats these three stuck in a cinema.

The End of The Beginning by saestina (Peter, Claire, Hiro, Sylar) A damn good “Villians” era fic, with Future!Peter and Future!Claire chasing each other into the present. Time travel is easy to understand here, and it’s a great action mini-epic.

White by
ever_obsessed (Claire, Peter, Adam. Slight Paire undertones. Rated R) I don’t read a lot of “Claire Gen” so to speak, because I’m not a huge fan. But this made my heart ache for her. It’s so angsty and like Unmade, it tells of how being trapped in a little white room can eat your sanity away.

Delicious by darkbunnyrabbit (Sylar, Rated R):….it’s Sylar/Ice Cream Porn. That alone put it on this list.

PETER/CLAIRE:

Guilty by paynesgrey (Rated NC-17, incest) : Not for the relgious feint of heart, this dark fic explores the Catholic undertones to the Petrelli family and the growing heat between Peter and Claire. The climax of the story contains one of the most inventive places for a love scene I’ve seen ;)

Half Light Makes For A Clearer View by boombangbing (Rated R, AU): Brilliant take on ‘Quantum Leap’ with Peter at the helm. Great “wtf is happening to me” fic, and exploration of all the psych effects.

Dark Legacy by nmidian (Rated R, Incest) I really hope this fic isn’t stalled indefinetly because there is only one word for it - epic. Each chapter is about thirty pages. Nick is an incredible action writer, and reading this fic is kind of like reading Heroes: The Bourne Identity.

Glass Ceiling by saestina (Rated PG-13) Every night, Peter can hear Claire thinking and dreaming from the room above his. Poetic, pretty writing and a lot of sexual tension.

Best Tip Ever by
cold_queen_5 (Rated NC-17) One of my favorite pieces of shameless Paire porn. Peter and Claire get it on in a taxi…and guess which one of our Indian friends is the hapless driver? =D

Lonely Hearts And Valentines by
eowyn_girl (Rated PG-13) Simultamiously romantic and familial, Claire spends Valentine’s Day in New York and gets to know Peter and Nathan better. A nice Petrelli family bonding fic, with lots of quotable lines and Claire’s old friend Zach!

Of Dishtowels and Transformers by stephernee (Rated PG-13): Proof that brotherly/sisterly Paire can be fun too. Basically, Claire brings Peter in from the rain and he chases her around the house. Includes adorable cameo inserts from Simon, Monty, and some Transformers. XD

Butterfly In Reverse by hazelnutcoffee (Rated R, AU): One of those fun, “all the season one characters are bffs” fics. A fun, romping romance with lots of humor, Claire’s adorable roommate, and espionage! My best friend and I read this on the phone to each other and were quoting it.

The Elegy Season by andbless­­_mybaby (Rated NC-17, Incest): Basically, Peter and Claire on the run, going from hotel to hotel. Oh, you guys. Not only is this story just overall amazing (well, look who wrote it) but the most memorable thing is the hauntingly not-graphic smut. She makes you feel like a voyeur, like you can FEEL their lovemaking, even though there really isn’t a lot of written detail to it. It’ll creep you out but amaze you at the same time.

The Day Your Hero Died byfallenmagic (Rated PG-13): The best thing about all her fics is that, not only are they more general/familial instead of smutty, the characterizations of Peter and Claire are incredible. This fic I remember in particular for having a great Claire!voice, which I appreciate so much, because I can’t write Claire, lol. It is based off the Future!Paire graphic novel and will have your heart wrenching for both Claire and her uncle.

And these following are fics that have basically been ingrained into Paire canon. They’re so popular they’re still winning awards, in addition to the numerous that have already been granted. Basically, you are not a Paire shipper if you haven’t read them =)

The Dust of Ages by sinverguenza (Rated R, Incest) : Peter grows up as he travels back, guiding Claire as she lives her teenage years. This writer is fantastic and I recommend you check out her whole masterlist at the unfinishedline.

Becoming Petrelli by paynesgrey (Rated NC-17, Incest) : Claire is introduced to the deeper secrets of the Petrelli family. The fic that basically built the Petrelli Mansion in my mind. It invented a MOOD, guys. It’s probably not as creepy as some of the stuff that’s been written today, but it was definetly ahead of it’s time in the taboo Petrelli department.

The Long Wait Till Judgement by
marble_rose (Rated NC-17, Incest) : The first real “eternity” fic out there, at least the first one that was memorable. Harsh emotions and a sad but uplifting ending.

Nascent by svilleficrecs (Hard NC-17, Incest): A very long, well-paced character piece of Peter and Claire’s relationship. Great dialogue, events, and graphic love scenes.

Ring of Fire by
lit_chick08 (Rated R, AU, with Claire/Isaac) : It’s almost complete and hasn’t been updated in a long time, but I have faith that the author will indeed finish it. So, I must say, this is pretty much THE Paire epic. I sat down and read all 20+ chapters in one five hour setting - it was that enticing. Her writing is deep yet simple, the plot is intriguing, and with the suspenseful romance you’re literally BEGGING for Peter and Claire to kiss already!

Easy To Love by sweetbelle07 (Rated R, Incest): Peter’s life moves along while Claire’s stays exactly the same. Super sad but so worth it. Claire’s angst over being in love with her uncle is wonderful. Incest is NOT easy. So many people forget this, but SweetBelle really pushed the difficulty that Claire goes through, and it’s wonderfully down to Earth.

PETER/SYLAR:

*NEW* Mad World by jadedoll (Rated NC-17): This was the fic I did Big Boom art for, and boy am I glad. Peter accidentally jumps five years into the future, reunited with faces that were only once familiar. Great ensamble piece with a subplot of Sylar/Peter. It's one of the best examples of world-building I've seen.

*NEW* If It Makes You Happy by pylarwoman (Rated R): She's written a huge archive of Petlar, all varying from crack to fluff to angst, to true philosophy. This fic is a cute, down to Earth fluff piece and one of her more normal stories ;D I recced it to a friend while reading it.

*NEW* When Your Life Is Chaos by paradoxii : It's funny how the future can simultamously be dark and cute. This story follows Peter through eternity, and his thoughts on what it would be like to share a kiss with Sylar.

Reunion by paxlux (Rated NC-17) : Or, basically, anything by this author. This is my favorite fic in her archive though, and one of my top five favorite fics of all time. Everytime I reread it, my heart literally aches. It is how a romance between Peter and Sylar should be written - not fluff and love confessions, but with silence and actions and even with brutality.

Smut Stew by
capn_mactastic (Rated hard, hard NC-17) : Not to be taken seriously at all, just a fun, long, very porny romp through mirror!Peter’s dealings with MPD Sylar and Gabriel.

Friday On My Mind by jadedoll (Rated NC-17) : A mix of the above two, blending fun humor with more serious, weighty issues between Peter and Sylar. Basically, Sylar has a habit of randomly showing up at Peter’s apartment and instead of fighting - conversation ensues! Thoughtful, but good for the romantic type of reader who wants a realistic, enjoyable love story without all the schmoop.

Threads by
entangled_now (Rated R) : This fic won like, a gazillion awards, including Best Overall Fic at heroes_slash. A Petlar fic, over all other ships! It’s well deserved. Basically, you follow Peter as he jumps between two worlds. In one, he’s being experimented on, and in the other, he’s happy with Gabriel. The question is, what is real?

Ballad of Fallen Angels by kaiyote (Rated R, Incest): Similar in vein to “Threads”, as you’re with lost!Peter for most of the story. However, this one takes place in the Fugitives universe, as Sylar - Peter’s brother - tries to protect Peter from Nathan’s kill squad.

Sleepover by pyjamagirl (Rated NC-17): Peter and Sylar take refuge at the Petrelli mansion after Peter water-damages their apartment. Another subtle, nice ‘romantic’ sort of fic, but this one includes the whole Petrelli family! All the interactions are great here, especially Sylar/Tracy and Angela/Sylar. Nice, warm, “welcome to the family” fic.

Turbulence by
brighteyed_jill (Rated NC-17): By far the best Petlar mile high club story I’ve read. Shameless PWP and a good lighthearted read. Cause sometimes you’ve just got to have some porn ^_^

Being Alive by paradoxii (Rated NC-17): It was hard to pick just one from her, but this is the one that gives me the good!chills. Sylar kills Peter and brings him back to life…which is one hell of a turn on for the empath.

Puppets by sapphire17 (Rated NC-17, incest): Doyle gets ahold of the boys and uses them to put on a damn good show. Good insert into volume three, and there’s actually a lot of plot and character work to accompany the smut! Both men are rather in character in conversation, and her Doyle will make you grin with recognition.

Perfection by
yo_mawari (Rated PG-13): Or, how “I Am Become Death” SHOULD have been. Peter takes a trip to the future and is boarded by Gabriel and his son Noah, while Future!Peter tries to right his wrongs. Slow, quiet, and subtle tale of growing feelings between the Peter of today and the Sylar of tomorrow, with baby!Noah in the background.

Stay by
yo_mawari (Rated PG-13): It’s short, but it gives me butterflies every time I read it. The imagery here is lovely and there’s something about in-love-but-in-denial-about-it!Sylar that always gets to me.

The Jack The Ripper!AU by
yo_mawari (Rated R): This is just a damn cool AU, ya’ll. It’s a period piece, assuming that Sylar is the infamous killer, and Peter, a hapless bystander, gets caught up in a passionate, mysterious affair with him. Good, yummy stuff but probably not for those with too weak stomachs.

Whetstone by
brighteyed_jill (Rated NC-17): Peter ties himself up to tempt the darker sides of Sylar in this sexy, dark PWP. Because Peter is a total bottom. Any fans of pale, beautiful, submissive Peter need to click this link right now.

That Echo Chorus Lied To Me by sparrowette (Rated R): Oh, just a brilliant, beautiful, blow-your-mind psych fic. Great machine imagery with Gabriel, as opposed to the human, emotional imagery with Peter. In the end, they blend together in this merging of gears and flesh. Fantastic.

Per aspera ad astra by kuwdora (Rated NC-17): Just one damn sexy, smart little smut ficlet. It manages to be simultamiously foreboding and romantic.

PETER/GABRIEL TWIN!VERSE

For those unfamiliar with twin!verse, it assumes that Peter and Gabriel were born as twins, and raised together in the Petrelli household. Most twinfics take place when the boys are between the ages of 16-21.

Gemini In Capricorn by speccygeekgrrl (Rated NC-17) : Peter and Gabriel celebrate their birthday at two in the morning. Sweet but not too much, and a well-written twin fic that’ll make you feel fuzzy.

Surprise! by brandinsbabe (Rated NC-17, Peter/Gabriel/Nathan): My favorite of her twin!verse series. Peter and Gabriel get it on in a limo at their 21st birthday, with Nathan awkwardly asked to join. I’m not a fan of Nathan in my twincest, but I rather liked this one. It’s just enough.

My Brother’s Keeper byperdiccas (Rated NC-17): Long, but deservingly so, because a lot is discussed between the twins at the night of their graduation. They’re going separate ways and need to lean on each other’s shoulders to deal with the hardship. Good smut, good characterizations, and will stay with you long after you finish it.

PETER/NATHAN:

Big Damn Petrelli Story byfuturesoon (Rated R) : Basically, my favorite of all Petrellicest origin stories. Great points of view, good sex without being graphic, interesting plot. I read it during class once and got really into it XD

Your Young Men Shall See Visions by linaerys (Rated NC-17): Long and detailed, but worth it. Literally zooms in on a small portion of Peter and Nathan’s life (like all her wonderful fics) and you appreciate it just for the research and detail. In this, Peter goes to college and Nathan frowns upon his brother’s lifestyle.

OTHER/MULTIPLE PAIRINGS:

Silence by crashgirl82 (Angela/Peter, Rated R for incest/sex) : One of the few fics of this pairing that’s out there, but that doesn’t make the standard any lower. Angela’s voice is fantastic in this, and the situation that takes place in the fic is subtly creepy and enticingly interesting.

Death Drive by
ever_obsessed (Knox/Claire, Rated NC-17) : Missy writes Claire so well, and her Knox isn’t anything to sneeze at either. It’s such a rare pairing but you can tell she wrote it with a mad passion. It’s simultamiously deep and hot, so a good read whether you’re looking for fun porn and badass Claire, OR something to really make you think.

Remember What The Dormouse Said bypaynesgrey (Sylar/Claire, Rated R): I don’t read a lot of Sylaire, but Heather’s always entices me. This is one of my favorite of her stories to date, regardless of ship. It’s simple but effective and Sylar’s voice is incredible.

Winter In Elysium by saestina (Peter/Adam/Claire, Rated R): I love this threesome, and even more how it develops throughout the story. Saestina set this in the potential “virus verse” and it’s a heartpounding character driven account of survival in a desolate world. Especially great for Claire fans.

Rattlesnake With Hands by danniisupernova (Adam/Elle, Rated R): Just a short, hot, really great Adam/Elle ‘growing up’ story. There are a lot out there, but this is my personal favorite.

Eternity Is A Long Time To Spend Alone by neshel (Peter/Sylar, Claire/Adam, Rated R) Parallels between the two couples are brilliantly explored as time passes in this short but genius fic. Peter and Sylar are the gods, but Claire and Adam are the immortals, and this story shows how big a difference that really does make- even though they’re all living eternally.

Find Me by sinverguenza (Peter/Claire, Sylar/Claire, Rated R): One of her bests, and a heartpounding race against time. One of the first Sylaire fics I remember reading that was actually believable! For the longest time all Sylaire fics were ‘Claire randomly falls in love with him, he turns good, the end.’ But not this - this has so much yummy, realistic darkness. Award winner, too, I believe ;)

Playing Favorites by cadesama (Angela/Peter, Rated R): Another one of the few Angela/Peter fics out there. A great exporation of the relationship between Angela and the Future!Peter of “Villians”. Because Future Pete seemed to have 10x more chemistry with Angela than regular Pete.

The Brotherhood of The Exchanged Pants by
nervous_girl (Zach/Milo, Ali/Olga, Natalie/Adrian, Rated R). Normally, I don’t touch RPF with a ten foot pole. But this was SO hilarious and so much fun that I made the exception. Plus, it’s not that shippy, so you can read along and enjoy Hayden and Ali’s “Heroes cast sleepover” as if you’re one of the gang ^_^

Not Easy Sport by

cross_rubicon (Monica/Sylar, Rated R): I like rare pairings but this one is particuarly brilliant to me. You will never realize how much Monica and Sylar really have in common until this fic, and they're both characterized so well. I want to see THIS Batman/Catwoman relationship, show!

Degrees Of Poison by nosilencehere  (Implied Holly/Artemis, Rated PG, Spoilers for Book Six) I just had to add this rec and point anyone who has ever read Artemis Fowl in the direction of this fic. It is unreal. The tension between Holly and Artemis, the canon elements, the exact characterization...it's like reading a deleted scene from the book and there's a lot of thinky brilliance in it. And underneath, it's all the reasons Holly/Artemis is a lifelong OTP of mine.
