Wet Weekend

I hadn't planned on doing anything special this weekend. It was an incredibly bad week at work and I figured I'd catch up on my sleep and maybe straighten up my bedroom a bit. It rained like cats and dogs on Friday. The floodgates opened, little creeks exploded into ugly brown lakes, and it was frickin' freezing in here, Mr. Bigglesworth.

My brothers were instructed to order pizza (with money swiped from my purse) and, being the thoughtful human beings that they are, ordered the absolute bare minimum to feed themselves so that nothing would be left over for anyone else in the house. So my mom and I jumped in the car and went out for dinner. I haven't been to Red Robin in awhile. My little non-alcoholic tropical drink hit the spot.

After that, we went to the video store and rented some DVDs because, after weeks and weeks and weeks of back-ordering and other problems, the new DVD player arrived on our porch Friday afternoon. It's got a VCR, too. Pretty neat, except it sometimes freezes up and you have to rewind and then play it again. Piece of crap. I can't complain, though. It was free. My family is well behind the rest of America in terms of technology. While we were one of the first people that we know to get a computer and e-mail, we've only had our answering machine for a few years. We didn't get a microwave until Christmas a few years ago and last summer, my father caved and bought two cell phones because I refused to drive anywhere by myself without one. Plus our plan has no such thing as long distance. To spend over an hour on the phone with Washington D.C. would cost a small fortune on our land line. The only alternative more economical than the cell phone would be not to call Jackie at all during the school year.

Friday night I watched Catch Me If You Can with my brothers. I love that movie. I saw it with Jackie when it was in the theater and had to rent it. I might just buy it sometime and add it to my tiny collection. It's funny that my youngest brother understood it better than the older one. While we were watching the movie, this huge mosquito flew into the room and Patrick, six feet tall, jumped up and hid behind me. I'm a freaking foot shorter than him and he's afraid of a damn mosquito? It took him twenty minutes to kill the stupid thing, which was flying around the ceiling, far higher than I could reach. He screams like a girl. Ugh.

We also rented About Schmidt, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and About a Boy. About Schmidt was pretty good. It's definitely geared more towards older people but I did find it very sad. I'll watch the other two sometime this week.

Last night I went out with Scott. Chris is in Hawaii for two weeks, so it was just the two of us hanging out. We went to the video store again and then to the mall, had a nice dinner (that consisted of us sharing three different appetizers: mini-pieorgies, and beer-battered french fries and mozzarella sticks), then went to his former place of employment for some tiramisu ice cream. After that, we went back to his house and watched My Fellow Americans. Jackie and Adam swear that it was shown, either in Modern America or government, but I didn't remember it at all. I laughed my ass off. It was great. Then we watched some show that was sarcastic and made fun of people who do stupid and dangerous stunts.

Bottom line, I didn't get as much sleep as I wanted. I did clean up one area of my room but I've been dragging all day. I plan on doing a little writing, watching TV, taking a nice long shower, and going to bed early. Tomorrow should be a warm, sunny day. Hopefully there will be some rays left after work so I can get a little sun. Some tennis would be good, too.
