So, I just posted one of my two entries in the Narnia Fic Exchange,
Under Cover written for the lovely Sushi/
makinhistory The story is not TSG compliant but there is obviously overlap. You can see some of TSG in the characterizations of Polly and Digory, the description of Lucy, the presence of Susan and her pilot boyfriend, and in the philosophy, the thematic elements, and how it approaches the question of what it is to be Narnian in Spare Oom. Some of the other details of the story, not so much, and I'm not sure that I see Eustace and Jill in a relationship. I do see them thinking about it, and giving it a try. A persistent issue for me in Part 3 has been whether I screw supposed canon and actually put Silver Chair later, in say 1946. The text is inconsistent, with the conversation between Jill and Eustace implying VotDT was only a few months earlier, yet also suggesting that the war was over. Jill does think of ration booklets, but food continued to be rationed after the war. For Under Cover, I stuck to the wiki timeline.
Also, I think the film The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, is building on a couple of things for Silver Chair -- the "greening" of Jadis, a link between Jadis and the Lady of the Green Kirtle, and a similarity in tactics. Jadis uses sweets to seduce a child Edmund -- fandom takes that further to sexual abuse -- not something I hold to particularly, but it's persistent. Jadis in the Dawn Treader film taunts Edmund's manhood and masculinity and the offer of Prince has become a promise of being a King, with her. By the time of Silver Chair, the Green Witch seduces and abuses Rilian and the relationship, even in the text of the book, is sexual -- he is 30 and she promises he will be King and she his Queen. So, the character moves from seduction with sweets to seduction with sex.
So, most of you have probably seen it, but if not, here it is! Thanks! I hope you enjoy the film!!
