Chapter 22, the end is near

Chapter 22 went up, and it's relatively short, but covers two things that really are best dealt with separately.

It ties up the boy in the tree via Narnia flashback, which is, truly, more about Part 3, than Part 2.

And, Tebbitt get the shock of his life.

As to the first point, there are thematic elements in the flashback that have lurked in the story from the very beginning.  Finally, Lucy's story, first hinted at in Chapter 4 of Part 1 begins to unfold.  The flashback ties closely with Peter's time in Oxford with Richard and chapter 2, The Fen.  As for Edmund, in the last chapter, I mention shipping the Telmarines off versus dealing with the consequences.  Thus far, in this story, we've seen very little of Edmund in his traditional Just role.  It's all been Rat and Crow.  I've done quite a bit with the Just in the Narnia side of things -- law involves more than trying and deciding criminal cases -- in this vision, if it involves parchment and ink, it's probably Edmund who deals with it -- or Susan.  Writing treaties, laws, requirements, contacts, leases, purchase and sale, assessing taxes and all that STUFF  is all legal too.  But another component, the one dealt with during the Lament for Bardon in the Scrubbs' backyard, goes to the heart of the traditional Just role.  And so we see it here.

Last, there has been a point to the obnoxious Hummingbirds and Otters, the Eagles in mating spirals, and the other challenges of the Narnia culture.  In the Cross Pollination chapter of Part 1 with Susan, Lambert and the Hummingbird hen, Susan repeats much of what Edmund does here. It's fun and it makes me laugh, but there are reasons for it too and while Otters and swearing birds and Sir Hairy the Horrid would not seem to be relevant to Spare Oom, they are.

And as for poor Tebbitt,  yeah, well, he was going to have to hear, and Susan sure wasn't going to tell him.
So, thanks!
