Hey there all

Aug 10, 2004 22:23

Once again there is agap in the conversation. Sorry 'bout that. I just completed my training for Verizon Wireless training and yesterday was my first day of A-bay. A-bay is also called academy bay, it is where they get all the crap they pour into your head during trsining and then flush it back out again as your head is filled with experience while taking actual calls from customers. I get to be in abay for 4 weeks. Did I mention that I hate my job? Oh, I bet I already did many times before.

Fun thing happened today. I went for another visit to the vampires at the TX blood bank again. This is my third trip, and they seem to know me by name now and like me. I did go in 2 weeks ago and gave whole blood, but this time I went in and donated platelets. In case you don't know what these little devils are, here is the 411.

Platelet - A minute, nonnucleated, disklike cytoplasmic body found in the blood plasma of mammals that is derived from a megakaryocyte and functions to promote blood clotting. Also called blood platelet, thrombocyte.

Honestly, this is the hardest hit my imune system has ever taken. I was woozy for a couple of hours after, and got nausous during dinner, but I also got to watch "Pirates of the Carribean" again, so that was fun. Even though I felt run down after, I think I may do it again in 2 weeks. I found out that that type of donation is good for cancer patients. If a cancer patient was to get the same number of platelets from whole blood, he/she would have to take in 9-10 units compared to what I donated today.

Honestly, I feel kinda good doing something decent like this for the population of TX (my guess is that they have not tried to run me out of their state after almost a year) and I am getting over my fear of needles to boot. I never keep the hats, shirts, od What-a-burger coupons (they are shared with friends) and I do not get any money out of it, and I am not actually looking for thanks for this either. Damn, I must have a soft spot for humans after all.

Also, someone pointed out ot me that I liik quite a bit like Benjamin Franklin. I put on a pair of glasses, and pushes them all the way down to the tip of my nose. MY GOD!!!!! I DO!!!!

More later.
Hugs and such,
Carl
