Just to say before I comment on the story, I've loved this song as a R/T song for SOOOO long. I actually think of the Order of the Phoenix whenever I listen to Rent now. It's just become the war theme in my head.

But yes, onto the story. I love the characterisation of Tonks here, of her need to be optimistic to keep her spirits up, and I love her talking about her parents, and how she was lonely, cause Remus was lonely too...JK told us so (not that being a werewolf child before Hogwarts we couldn't guess but anyhoo.)

And your Sirius and Kingsley as well, just so awesome, I love how King is all he's my friend as well, I'm just so much calmer than you. lol :D

And of course, Remus being unable to understand how Tonks can be so delightfully happy after such sad news. Reminds me of that whole thing with Bruce Banner always being angry is his secret. Tonks's secret is always being sad, but covering it with a smile...

So yes, what I'm trying to say is I love this, and thank you :D

I really like this exploration of Tonks as a character, and the way her suddenly opening up to Remus both shocks him into clearer understanding, and leads to a certain admission of feelings.

She was the only person he knew who could be so open and yet so well concealed at the same time.

That's exactly how I think about Tonks -- putting up a very good front and being friendly and funny, but keeping some things very close. (It also helps make sense of the way she ends up in HBP, if she's always been feeling things more deeply than she'd like to let on.)

I really like how this starts - we're really thrown into it right away. Kingsley is a great character, and I very much enjoyed his little cameo here. And it rings very true the way Sirius gets so upset about their friend and collegue being sent to Azkaban!
I'm very glad that Remus came to a closer understanding of Tonks as a person as well as his feelings for her. I do think that speaking at least seemingly frankly, yet trying to lighten the mood by suggesting something for them to do, is very much something Tonks would do.
The ending is sad, yet hopeful in the way that Remus recognizes what he has in his life to hold on to. Which, despite the situation they're in, is quite a lot.
Thank you for sharing :)
