Summary: Remus and Tonks wonder.
There’s a lone tear streaming down your face.
But you wipe it with your hand, because you must not let him see how much his rejection is hurting you. You know he won’t listen to you and you just can’t bring yourself to argue any more.
There’s an apology forming in your mouth.
Because you would rather kill yourself than cause her any pain. But the words die in your lips as she looks back at you, and it’s easy to delude yourself into thinking she will move on. She’s young and she’s beautiful and she can do better than you - that much you know.
You go separate ways, and know your paths may never cross again.
But not even the passage of time can lessen the grief of looking back on those moments - and the burden of knowing what you know now.
And you wonder “Why did I not speak?”
And you wonder “Why did I not cry?”
