Oh my God! I'm speechless. That is, quite possibly, the most evocative and beautiful peice I've ever seen done on Remus and Tonks. Your word choices were exquisite and the thought process they took the reader through was perfectly in character for Lupin. EXCELENT job!
It really feels complete and unified now. I can totally see Remus lying awake, thinking these things. It's both heartbreaking and lovely that he's aware of the way he is, and wants so m uch to break those old thought patterns. Tonks has the patience of a saint.
Utterly beautiful, and wonderful imagery. I love this part: "In fact, she almost seemed to revel in the metaphorical unwrapping of his parcel of humanity, as if each layer was something to be cherished. It gave him a thrill to think of himself as desirable as she made him feel." In fact, I love all of it. I fully believe that Remus has an intense fear of intimacy, and that it's incredibly difficult for him to let Tonks break through his shell. You've portrayed this side of him well.
I love it :) Beautifully written and wonderfully in character.
"He loved her, no doubt, but could the fire of their love ever melt the shield of ice that blocked him from handing over his soul?" --wonderful line. It's the exact dilemma Remus faced.
