It’s a precarious balance they have established; the closest of friends on the brink of something more. Together they engage in an infuriating dance: one step forward, two steps back. A barrier falls, he lets her in; panic comes and up it goes. In these small glimpses his emotional scars are being revealed. She knows his only defense is to deny her attraction as a simple shared affection of friends. She won’t buy into it; she can see the truth in the longing of his eyes.
In her heart she knows that he needs time and she can be patient.
