Summary: Yesung is a queer, but not the gay kind. Aside from his common flings with random girls and the tendency to hurt himself - emotionally - he really doesn't have much of a life. Things start going out of order when he meets the new sophomore in the math class he teacher assists in. It seems he's been "living in the moment" for too long, causing him to forget things and people of his past.
Kyuhyun's background isn't as simple as it seems and trouble starts heading his way as soon as he starts getting involved with Yesung. Their mutual attraction is anything but subtle, yet, Yesung can't accept the fact that he's... gay. How can Kyuhyun make Yesung understand that love goes beyond gender before everything becomes too late?

Sungmin held on tightly to Kibum's hands, his head resting on the side of the bed. Even in his dreams he couldn't forget that he was waiting for someone to wake up, for someone to speak to him. Yesung walked into the room, finding Kibum awake and smiling a silly grin at the sleeping Sungmin.

“You're up?” Yesung asked, placing two cups of water on the table beside the bed. “How are you feeling?”

“I'm feeling great,” Kibum whispered, afraid to wake Sungmin. “How long have I been in bed?”

Yesung helped Kibum sit up before handing him a nicely sliced plate of apples, “two days.” Glancing at Sungmin, who slept like a baby, Yesung couldn't help but chuckle to himself lightly. “Looks like he loves you more than he loves me,” Yesung teased. Kibum pinked at the cheeks.

“Do you know who did it?” Kibum suddenly asked, erecting his back. Yesung nodded. “It's complicated... right? Not some simple jealousy attack, attempt robbery, or a past argument gone horribly wrong?”

“No, of course not,” Yesung laughed. “I really want to thank you, Kibum. Thank you for protecting my younger brother when I wasn't there to look out for him.” Kibum shook his head and lightly, very lightly, squeezed Sungmin's hand affectionately. Yesung could see the love in his eyes, the care in his actions, and the passion that he lacked for anything, or anyone, in his own life.

Kibum turned back to Yesung, who sat on the couch on the other end of the bed. “I love him,” he suddenly admitted, causing Yesung to feel a little awkward, “I really love Sungmin. More than anything in the world.” Kibum could feel the tip of his nose sour and his ears burning. His heart began to ache as he realized how cold, how very cold, Sungmin's hands were; all he wanted to do now was to warm them. “I don't know when it was that I started loving him, but somewhere along the way I lost myself and all I had was Sungmin,” he smiled weakly. “When I saw the man shoot Sungmin, when I saw how much pain he was in, the only thing I could think of was: I had to protect him. Even if it cost me my own life.” His tears were now surging from his eyes and trickling down his tanned cheek.

“He has it in him, doesn't he? Something I always thought only girls had. He makes you want to protect him, to nurture him, to love him,” Yesung sighed, “that's why I could never leave him alone.”

Kibum blinked at him, “Yeah, something like that.”

Sungmin shifted in his position and eventually sat up, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. When he noticed that Kibum was awake, he pulled Kibum into his arms and planted various kisses on his lips, eyes, and cheeks. Feeling misplaced, Yesung stepped out of the room to give the couple some privacy.

Closing the door, Yesung strengthlessly leaned against it. He didn't know if he was just mentally fatigued from his worries or if it was his busy schedules - i.e. work and hospital duties - that were slowing him down.

“Are you angry at us?”

Yesung didn't bother searching for the owner of the voice, he had heard this voice and question too many times the past two days that he could instinctively recognize it. “No, Hankyung-sshi, for the millionth time; I'm not upset with any of you.”

“I'm glad,” Hankyung sighed, following Yesung to a seat near the door. “We have the three of you protected and closely followed, you don't have to worry about being endangered anymore.”

Yesung nodded, “I know, you've also repeated that about a billion times.”

“It helps ease my guilt,” Hankyung explained.

“None of you have to feel guilty, it wasn't you fault,” Yesung comforted. “Where are the Princes, anyhow? I haven't seen them ever since the first visit.”

“Investigating,” Hankyung replied solemnly, “Heechul is worried about the bigger person behind the assault, so he's been working with several detectives and investigators in an attempt to determine who the master planner is. Siwon is still busy with school, of course, but he's making sure to keep a close eye on Geunyoung.”

Yesung stretched his arms, waiting for Hankyung to tell him about the last, most important, prince of them all.

“Kyuhyun... we're not really sure what he's doing.”

“What?” Yesung asked, turning to face Hankyung completely. “Is something wrong with him? He's alright, isn't he?”

Hankyung shrugged, “we haven't been able to see him lately. He locked himself in his room at the Royal Palace. He refuses to see anyone, even his father.”

Yesung's fists tightened anxiously, “Why?”

“Guilt, probably. Your uncle raised him like his own son, Kyuhyun probably feels responsible for his death,” Hankyung analyzed, “and the incident with Sungmin-sshi and Kibum-sshi definitely didn't help his ego in the least.”

“It's not his fault,” Yesung shook his head, “it's not as if he sent the assailants. He couldn't stop them, no one could have.”

“If only he thought the same,” Hankyung sighed, “maybe it would all be easier.”

-----

“How much longer are you going to lock yourself in your room, Kyuhyun?”

At the voice of his brother, who he hasn't seen in years, Kyuhyun finally opened the door to his chamber. It was dark in his room, almost too dark for the human eyes to adjust to, but there was just enough light from a crease in the blinds for Eunhyuk to spot Kyuhyun's restless body in the desk across the room.

“Geez, you really know how to kill your own spirit,” Eunhyuk teased, trying hard not to trip over items laying loosely around the room, “what are you doing in here?”

“Reflecting,” Kyuhyun replied inanimately, “trying to find out why I suck as much as I do.”

Eunhyuk almost wanted to laugh at how childish Kyuhyun, the Crown Prince, sounded at that moment. He realized this was still the baby brother he used to know. “Well, it doesn't seem like you're getting anywhere,” he concluded, pulling the blinds open.

“Yeah, it's because I suck,” Kyuhyun sighed.

“You don't suck,” Eunhyuk rolled his eyes. “You know, it's been YEARS since we last spoke to each other. Mails and text messages aside, I missed actually speaking to you.” Eunhyuk made his way over to Kyuhyun's desk and glanced over the letters, photos, documents and some poor attempts at drawing on the desktop.

Kyuhyun slumped on the table, his lips forming into a pout. “I did too,” he breathlessly replied.

“You know how Hankyung hyung just can't keep his mouth shut?” Eunhyuk asked, walking to the chair on the other side of the desk, “well, I've heard quite a bit about you and life in the commons.”

Kyuhyun rolled his eyes, “of course.”

“Well, not like Heechul hyung said any less,” Eunhyuk laughed.

“I figured,” Kyuhyun sighed. “Let me guess, the first thing you heard from them had something to do with a guy named Yesung.” Eunhyuk's sharp, single lidded eyes widened but eventually curved into a sly grin.

“Actually, the first I heard about had to do with you trying to convince Father to give me the crown so you could return to common life,” Eunhyuk laughed, “but it seems Yesung has a big role in your reasoning in doing so?”

Kyuhyun groaned as he slouched into his desk chair, “No. Forget I even mentioned the name.”

“It's too late for that, Kyuhyunnie,” Eunhyuk shook his head, “What's done is done. Now, tell me who this Yesung person is.”

Kyuhyun glanced at his brother, “he's... he's just someone I met with several times as a kid and started going to school with a while ago.”

Eunhyuk scanned Kyuhyun suspiciously, “I highly doubt that.”

“Well, then I met with him several times and we were-”

“Sexually active?” Eunhyuk offered.

“Just once,” Kyuhyun groaned, trying to hide his blushing cheeks, “but I've-”

“Wanted him ever since?” Eunhyuk suggested again.

“Ever since we were... I know this will sound wrong, but ever since we were kids,” Kyuhyun admitted.

Eunhyuk furrowed his brows in thought, “and he feels the same? ...I hope.”

Kyuhyun shook his head, “he's not gay. Rather, he can't admit to himself that he's a homosexual even though all his friends, save Siwon, and his younger brother are.”

“How can he have sex with you and not know that he's gay?” Eunhyuk thought aloud. When he realized he just totally embarrassed his younger brother by saying the 'forbidden word' aloud, he bit on his bottom lip and apologized wholeheartedly. Kyuhyun shook his head, waving away his humility. “So, are you locking yourself in here because the man you like won't admit he likes you, because father is forcing you to be heir to his throne, or because two of your friends were injured and your care-taker was killed because of their relationship with you?”

Kyuhyun pounded his head on the top of his desk, “all three.”

“You have to grow up, Kyuhyun,” Eunhyuk sighed. “You can't just hide in here because you're scared. If you want that Yesung guy to admit his feelings for you, then prove you're worth him going gay. If you don't want to be the heir, then confront father and ask for a change. If you feel responsible for the casualty and injury dealt to your friends, then find out who did it and get revenge. Sitting in here, sulking, will do you no good.”

Kyuhyun blinked at his older brother twice before responding. “Y-you've grown up,” was all he could manage to say. Eunhyuk rolled his eyes. “You were acting! All these years, you purposely made yourself seem irresponsible, immature, and unworthy of being an heir, didn't you?!”

“I did not!” Eunhyuk defended, his tone in mock hurt. “I'm not that stupid. Yes, I admit, I never wanted the crown but I would hardly result to such low measures.”

“Then what was it?” Kyuhyun asked.

Eunhyuk thought to himself for a short few seconds before replying, “I was merely being myself.”

-----

It wasn't until the fifth day that Kibum had been hospitalized when Kyuhyun showed up and confronted the triplet. He stood outside of the room with Yesung, both of them intending to give Sungmin and Kibum their personal space while gaining some of their own.

“I'll protect you,” Kyuhyun promised Yesung.

Yesung scoffed, “I don't need your protecting, you're just a kid.”

“You really don't mean that,” Kyuhyun nearly threatened as he forced Yesung against the wall. “You know that I'm not just a kid,” He grinned smugly. “I mean it, Yesung, I'll protect you with everything I have.”

“And I meant what I said as well; I don't need you to protect me,” Yesung rolled his eyes, shoving Kyuhyun away from himself. “You don't owe us anything, Kyuhyun. There's nothing to protect us from.”

Kyuhyun frowned as he took a seat beside Yesung. “You could be hurt. Someone could attack you like they did to Sungmin and Kibum. I'm sure they know about our... affairs, they might come after you!”

“If they do, I can defend myself,” Yesung assured, “I'm not a girl, I don't need your protection. You're what? Four years younger than I am? I doubt I could use your help.”

Kyuhyun was pained by the words. He knew his age was always a barrier between him and Yesung, but he never thought Yesung would use it against him. Four years wasn't a lot but it was enough for Yesung to think of him as a child, a boy, anything but a man.

Yesung looked at Kyuhyun and sighed, “I didn't mean it like that, Kyuhyun. All I'm saying is that you don't have to feel bad about anything and you don't have to be scared or worried about us.”

“I'm only concerned when it comes to you, Yesung. I would give anything for you. Anything!” Kyuhyun proclaimed.

“You know how you asked me the other day what was wrong with me and why I was acting weird?” Yesung asked, a brow lifted in near-horror, “I want you to answer those questions right now.”

“What?” Kyuhyun asked, his eyes staring into Yesung's innocently.

“That! Why are you acting like that? You were never like this before!” Yesung shouted, standing on his feet.

Kyuhyun smiled, “I decided that what hyung said was right. If I want something, I have to work to get it and I won't give up until I have it.”

“Ahem,” they heard someone cough from behind them, “I'm sorry to interrupt but I'm sure what I have to say is far more in your interest than what you're discussing right now.” They both swung around, finding Moon Geunyoung and Siwon standing at the intersection of the hallway.

“Geunyoung,” Yesung muttered, “Siwon, what are you two doing here?”

“Hyung,” Siwon greeted with a genuine smile, “She has something to tell you, Kyuhyun.”

Geunyoung smiled sweetly at them, “Revenge is a sweet word, no? But that's not what I'm here to speak about.” She turned to Siwon, who threw her a disapproving glare, she rolled her eyes. “I was threatened by your friend here - or shall I call him my fiance? - so I thought, being as considerate as I am, I would give you some clues as to who the master mind behind our genius plan is.”

“Treasonous,” Kyuhyun corrected, “I would hardly call them genius.”

“Sure,” she shrugged. “The current King will have to pay the price for what he committed far back into the past. But the price we're making you pay, Kyuhyun, is what your brother has done to someone else.”

“My brother?” Kyuhyun asked.

“Prince Eunhyuk,” Geunyoung nodded. “I heard he's had quite the fun overseas. I'm afraid the reason he returned to Korea isn't as simple as visiting family.”

“You have a brother?” Yesung asked.

“Do you know anything about politics?” Kyuhyun asked in return. Yesung shook his head and Kyuhyun let out a long, exasperated, sigh. “Yes, I have an older brother. He was sent overseas because he was a troublemaker.”

“And his trouble making caused me this large hospital fee?” Yesung asked dis-believingly. “I need to meet this guy.”

“That's the least of our problems, Yesung-hyung,” Siwon laughed, “now there's Eunhyuk-hyung's safety we have to consider.”

“He deserves it!” Kyuhyun scowled, “It's what he gets for tricking my father into making me heir and running off for years!” Yesung laughed.

“Who's this some else you speak of?” Yesung asked, returning to his serious self. He still couldn't believe that Geunyoung was cruel enough to risk the lives of the innocent in order to get her so-called revenge.

“He's an escort,” she answered, her gaze locked with Yesung's. “That's all I can tell you.” Yesung closed the distance between them and took her hands in his own, “I really can't tell you anymore, Oppa.”

“I'm not asking you for anything more, Geunyoung, I know you've suffered enough.” Tears were collecting in her eyes and he brushed them away, “Was everything a lie?” She shook her head, her eyes unwavering. “I'm glad I chose to believe in you then.”
