Summary: My response to a
bloodclaim challenge.
The night sky was bright, sparks from the fire bursting in the air and bringing with them the smoky scent of burning cedar and pine. The flames jumped and popped, almost seeming to merge with the multitude of stars overhead. The bonfire threatened to escape its boundaries several times, but was held in place by the water-soaked logs that surrounded it. Two nude figures danced freely just outside the scope of the far-reaching flames. The men, light and dark, were a perfect contrast, their bodies twining and touching as they moved without guile.
Anyone watching would have seen how each man seemed to accentuate the beauty of his partner. Anyone listening would hear their laughter, the joy that only pure happiness can bring. Anyone sitting near enough would be able to see the perfect scale model, built from rocks lovingly collected and carved, set in perfect position to capture the morning sun.
The dance became more erratic as the night lengthened. Hands grasped and refused to release their captives. Lips met and met again until the dance all but stopped under the influence of their passion.
Long fingers stroked pale skin as elegant hands wrapped themselves in sable strands of silk. Legs wrapped around and around until both men fell heavily to the ground, their landing softened by the coolwarm sand surrounding the fire. Names murmured into the breeze carried across to the owls watching calmly from their perches high above.
Love, honor and blessings floated through the night, surrounding the rutting pair with an aura of purest magicks. The fire burned low as their love ignited into an inferno uncontested in its heat. The sounds of the night; the frogs, crickets and birds of prey faded away as a more animalistic tenor emerged. The night began to lighten and the lovers finally separated, laughing and teasing as they ran into the morning light, headed for shelter from the sun.
“Why would I want to build a bonfire in the middle of the summer, Spike?”
“Midsummer, pet. A celebration to pay respect to the Sun God, whose power is greatest at the summer solstice. The fire also wards off the winter. It’s a chance to celebrate life, to honor an ancient path… To dance naked beside a fire.”
“Naked? Outside?”
“Yeah, Xan. Warm night air, beautiful fire, the two of us together dancing under the stars…”
“Oh yeah, I’m in.”
The End
