Like I said when I talked about the last of Michelle Sagara's books, it's getting hard to say much about them. Cast in Peril is the eighth book in her Chronicles of Elantra series. If you're not already reading them, this book probably won't make sense to you. If you are reading them, keep going! This book is just as engaging and engrossing as the previous seven.
There are two main stories in this book: one is the hunt for the arcanist who tried to kill Kaylin and Bellusdeo at the beginning of the book. (This also causes the egg Kaylin has been keeping warm to hatch, unleashing a tiny dragon-shaped being who becomes a part of the plot.) The other is the journey to the West March. What's interesting about the structure of the book is that they solve the arcanist plot, but they only get partway to the West March. The book doesn't quite seem unfinished because of it, but that ending halfway through part of the story is something I've noticed in more books recently, even ones that are, like this one, over 500 pages long.
