I'm so glad it seemed Woolf-like; I was trying to imitate her style in the beginning and then I just didn't have the time to do that anymore, but if anything about the piece is reminiscent of her...that's awesome.
The idea that magic could be out-of-style and seem antiquated, especially for people of MWPP's generation...it wasn't actually supposed to take over the fic the way that it did, actually. I wanted it to parallel the atheism of people like Mrs. Dalloway, but then it ended up being too fascinating, too much of a leap from the canon, to not play around with. The whole connection between the Muggle and Wizard worlds is really fascinating, isn't it? It's not clear to me exactly how it works even in canon: on the one hand, wizards and muggles have to live pretty close to each other, and they even intermarry to some unknown degree, but a lot of wizards seem to be utterly clue-less about muggles, and of course no muggles are supposed to know about wizards at all. And that's just bizarre. It seems inevitable that they should merge at some point, especially because Muggle society is so much bigger and more powerful than Wizard society.
I've wondered too, even apart from this story, what happens when wizards decide to live like Muggles (mostly imagining Remus trying to do this in the 80s)--it might not even be possible. Harry isn't able to suppress his magic in the books when he lives with the Dursleys. Even it's possible, it probably isn't healthy. Being magical...it's what they are, a part of their identity.
...urr, sorry for that ramble. Thank you again for your comments. I'm especially glad my war-wounded Sirius came off well; I really don't know anything about PTSD so I just tried to mirror him off of Septimus, but toned down. Thanks again!
