PSA: What is the moderated queue and when is midnight?
Moderated Queue
We use a moderated queue for posting here at rs_small_gifts. What the heck is a moderated queue, you say? Well, it’s a bit like it sounds. It’s a queue of posts that we, the mods, moderate. You complete your gift, have it beta’d, and then you post it to rs_small_gifts just as you would to any other community. The difference comes in that your post will disappear into a queue that you cannot see. So, it’s a good idea to make sure to preview your gift before you post it, because you won’t be able to see it after you click “post.”
We, the mods, will get a notification that you have posted to the queue. We can also preview your gift, but because we are not you, we cannot change anything. That means that if you, for example, forgot a “/” after your italics tag when Sirius gasps, the rest of your text will be in italics, just like this. Don’t fear, Remus and Sirius do not have to sound overwrought for the rest of the fic. We can send it back to you to fix. We will tell you in a message why we sent it back. The problem with the system is that it will say that your post has been rejected. We hate that word. We would never reject you. Never.
If you have a very long fic - as some overachievers sometimes do - let us know. By long, we mean over the LJ limit for one post. We will make arrangements with you about how to post it.
You can only post one gift to the queue at a time. If you have already finished your first gift and started on one for the bonus round, first, I am a little afraid of you, and second, you are going to have to wait to post your second gift. Everyone posts one gift and gets one gift before anyone gets seconds. That’s just good manners.
Midnight
Gifts are due by midnight (your time) on Monday, November 28. We do this to avoid any pesky time zone confusion and because it just seems to make more sense to let everyone figure out when midnight is for them. That said, midnight is that special time right after 11:59 pm November 28 and right before 12:01 am on November 29. This is all to say that if you are not going to have a gift posted to the queue by the time the mods rouse themselves from bed on November 29, you should have asked for an extension.
If you think you are going to need an extension and know it now, ask now. If you find yourself getting closer to midnight on the 28th, and the Sirius in your drawing still hasn’t finished knitting Remus’ Christmas socks, ask for an extension. If it is November 26th and Remus hasn’t told Sirius that, in a misguided attempt to heal the division, he accepted an invitation to spend New Year’s Eve with Voldemort, for the love of all that is good, ask for an extension and write them out of it.
