you really seem to understand the process of grieving and loss from all angles. darling teddy, sirius, remus, and even lolly seem to come to grips with the prospect of remus’ death in different ways and yet they feel very right and real. I’ve known many people like sirius in my work and i was thrilled to see that in this case he was right. seriously though you really got the idea of loss here with lovely passages like:
And with that, Remus’ mouth curls into a smile because he knows Sirius has opened his eyes, and he doesn’t need to open his own to know the expression: sleep-soggy and beautiful, chin too rough and breath too sour to quite enjoy kissing just yet, the faint crust of dreams around the creases of his eyes causing the eyelashes to catch and stick at the edges. This is the only time, Remus thinks, that it is possible for Sirius to look entirely innocent, even with a modest lechery coating every word, too early in the morning on his birthday.

They don’t talk much - don’t need to, finding words unnecessary in their silent language of soft touches and lingering kisses and gentle breaths that carry with them a greater message than murmured consonants ever would. Had they been younger - when they had been younger - the silence would have stood in place of words and secrets necessary for them to hold on to in order to hold on to each other. Now, however, everything is said, laid out between them over decades of a life stitched together, and Remus is just so tired that most of the day is spent dozing.
