Posting and Voting: Explanation and Rules

Posting Rules and Info

The idea of the Games is to have fun, showcase talent, and spread the love of our ship. Yes, a big part of it IS competition, but that does not mean that there is any room for nastiness, cruelty, and flaming. Wank is only tolerated in the masturbatory sense, and in our world trolls can only grunt and point, not use a keyboard. In other words, mean people suck.

1) Every day a pair of anonymous fics (one from each team, obviously) will be posted, and on some days a pair of anonymous art works will be posted as well. Readers may vote and make comments on these, and voting will last until seven days after the final works are posted.

2) The voting will be open to the public and, with a few exceptions, anyone with a LiveJournal account or Open ID may vote. The exceptions, of course, are Games participants and Mods. This is simply out of fairness because team members can tend to score their own team highly (and possibly give the other team low scores) - and that skews the results to say the least. Yes, we know that you are all above such pettiness (House Unity and all), but we're still trying to be fair. Former Team Members who have dropped and have not made their submission to the Games may vote.

3) Games Participants, however, are HIGHLY encouraged to comment. Cheer on your team (and the other team), support your friends (if you think you can recognize their styles), comment on works, and generally be enthusiastic. Remember how much you love comments? Show that love to others! Note: If you do happen to recognize someone’s work, please be kind and do not reveal that. If you do happen to expose the author/artist, the comment will have to be removed and then your friend loses a comment - not cool.

4) Mods may neither comment nor vote. We are impartial. We are neutral. We are Switzerland. We can’t even make recommendations.

5) Games Participants are also encouraged to pimp the games anywhere, everywhere ***, and as much as possible. All votes are averaged, but it is nice to get a lot people voting. To promote the Games, you may use our banners and icons, your team banners and icons, or even create your own. Remember, all works are posted anonymously, so we ask you to honor that and not pimp your work by revealing what you created. Pimp the Games, pimp works you love, encourage people to read your team’s works, but please do not cheat and reveal yourself before Reveals. Sadly, if we have actual proof that your anonymity was deliberately compromised, there will have to be consequences. Please don't make us do that.

6) After the close of the Games and Awards Distribution, the names of the artists/authors will appear by each work and you may re-post your stuff anywhere *** you wish.

7) Entries will be judged in the following manner:
Was it truly AU or Canon Compliant? Yes/No vote ("yes" is worth 2 points, "sort-of" is worth 1, and "no" is worth 0)
How well did the author/artist use their Prompt? 1 to 9 (9 being the best)
How much did you like this story/art overall? 1 to 9 (9 being the best)
Voters: the first two questions on each poll can be judged impartially. That is to say, you can dislike the piece but still appreciate how they used their genre/prompt. The third question in each poll "How much did you like this story/art overall?" is where you can vote using your personal tastes. Please vote consciously - we work very hard to average out each poll by hand and don't appreciate troll/null votes.

Also, please read the warnings to each story/picture... if it is not something you would normally read or would not look at please do not force yourself to read/look in order to vote! It's not fair to the author/artist/mods/yourself! Feel free to vote/comment at your convenience/discretion.

8) Your final score will be an average of all the votes, and poll results will remain hidden. You will not get to see your actual scores, but you will be allowed to see all comments.

9) Flaming, inflammatory comments, online trolls with opposable thumbs, non-sexual wank, and general nasty, hurtful comments are NOT ALLOWED under any circumstances. Any such comments will be screened or deleted, and the commenter may be banned. Mods will try to check comments throughout the day, but if you find an offensive comment please immediately inform a Mod and we will deal with it ASAP. Please do not try to be Hermione and deal with it yourself. Let a Mod take the hit. Finally, the author/artist and the Mods have the final say in whether or not a comment is hurtful. As an author or artist, if a comment hurts your feelings, it hurts your feelings. That's all we need to know to delete it. Hopefully, none of this will be an issue.

*** Predictable legal note: By saying “anywhere and/or everywhere,” we obviously mean anywhere and everywhere within reason. If your feel the need to spray paint a freeway overpass or spam other people’s journals that is your (ostensibly poor) decision. rs_games does not officially condone such activities and swotty Prefect!Remus would surely not approve.

Finally, we will be collecting recommendations to daily_snitch . A separate post will follow this and, as you rec or find recs for any particular story please let us know on this post.
