Oh, my heart. That was an incredibly painful ride. An incredibly well done look into Sirius' head and how the war(s) effected him. I particularly liked the part where his memories were shifting to align with what he knew later, how he now thought of Peter as always looking for information to be used against them, even as a first year on the train. That was a particularly nice touch. Lovely, if heartrending, job.

He could have survived losing James. This is a sin he carries in his heart, where it quietly festers. People say, I don't think I could have done that, don't think I could have survived that.

This literally made me burst into tears. I think I'd be hard pressed to find an expression of sirius's state of mind more perfectly and heartbreakingly rendered than this.

i spent the whole time reading this beautiful story with this horrible, wonderful ache in my belly - this fic made me so sad, and I loved every minute of it. A masterwork in character study.

DAMN THIS IS SOME GOOD FIC.

Such exquisite work.

Painful in the best possible way. This is the angst I really enjoy.

I don't think I read a better explanation of why Sirius didn't go to anyone with the truth after James and Lily's death, why he didn't try to declare his innocence. Such a great insight into the character and his state of mind.

I also thought that the use of paranthesis was very effective and two parts in particular touched my heart. One was when Sirius commented that while you can survive a lot of terrible things, you would not really be yourself anymore. And another where Remus left his heart in the box of photographs.

I thought that the brief window into Remus' POV was very necessary and also very touching.

A wonderful job overall.

Ow. This has lots of really great bits - especially the portrayal of Peter is excellent, he is so often overlooked in fanfiction - but ow it is sooo sad (sob)!

At first, when there was still hope, I was thoroughly enjoying this piece - but as things got darker and sadder and darker... (deep gut wrenching sigh) ...it became increasingly painful to read on. Which is only testament to the brilliant storytelling!
Very well done(!) to the author, but I do hope there will be something more uplifting in store for us again soon, dunno how much of this I can take :'(

wow! that was really gorgeous. it really felt like memory, like fragments of sensory perception drifting and floating through consciousness. this was perfect for the prompt and the theme but would have been equally perfect for last years theme about the senses. you are a really talented writer!
