So, it's been a few weeks (apparently 28 according to live journal's time line) since I updated this journal. Much has happend in the 6 months and I won't go into it all here. But since I'm here....
My dad had open heart surgery on September 30th. It was very "Bill Clinton"-esk for our family. Dad went to the cardiologist on Wed morning, they transported him to Baptist medical center on Wed. night, and cut his chest open at about 8:00 am the next morning. It was a true test of patience for yours truly as the most time I've spent with my family in the past 15 years was a day or two at a time. I got to know the Cardiac ICU waiting room very well over the few days that dad was there. You'd think, since they KNOW people are going to be spending nights there, they would make those couches in the waiting room a little more comfortable. But hey, there are worse things...
I don't remember if I've mentioned this in previous blog entries but I'm planning on moving to Seattle, WA in January. About 55 some odd days..but who's counting? I've been packing up my meager possessions to ship them so that I can fly unencumbered (is that a word?) when the time comes. While packing my things I have come to two realizations. The first being I have too much crap. The second being, I have issues getting rid of crap that I don't really need. My general rule has been, if it costs more to ship than to replace, I'll replace it. That worked really well with things like my TV, bed, dishes, etc... but I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of any of my DVDs or CDs. The CD issue was pretty easy. They are compact (thus the name) and they ship relatively easily. I saved them all on my computer with iTunes (a spectacular little program I picked up for free off the internet) and shipped them off. And because of this whole Media Mail rate, it was not that expensive.
The books however, were a whole different story. I have 4 bookshelves of books. It's not that much to be certain, I know people who have three times that many (Megan...) but it's EXPENSIVE to ship 50 lb boxes of books. So I have been forced to narrow it down. It was sad to take the books that didn't make the cut to the used book store....
Anyway..all is going well with my preparations and come January 9th, I'll be in a new city.
Let's see...OH, and that I would not think of this first is a bit telling, but alas... I have started dating again! Wouldn't you know it, I live in this hell hole for 10 years, only have one or two serious (if they can even count as such) relationships and three months before I leave, I meet this sweet man. He's kind and cute and worships the quicksand I walk on. It's very festive and even though he know's I'm leaving, he doesn't seem to mind.
Anyway, asside from SHAMELESSLY flirting with the little asian waiter today, nothing too exciting is going on.
I'm sending my second shipment tomorrow which is exciting, but as it is getting hazardously close to my bed time, I should be signing off.
For all my fans out there, I'm going to try to do better about keeping this damned blog. I've never been very good about such things, but we'll all just have to see together.
