I Like the Pressure

Jul 30, 2009 13:17

I know I complain about my job a lot, but the truth is that it’s a great job. It’s a very low pressure, do what you want kind of job where during the school year I can do homework while waiting for someone to need my help. During the summer, while I have no classes, it’s pretty damn boring. It had been driving me slowly mad until a couple weeks ago, when I started editing wedding pictures while I was here.

My Aunt and Uncle Threw the Opening Pitch... Aunt Rose Really got into it.

I'm kinda in love with this picture. <3

I really haven’t stopped since then. I’ve edited wedding shots, family shots, shots of flowers and gardens, shots of buildings, abstract shots, commercial shots, etc.

Bzzzzzzzz...

I was actually really excited because Dice lined me up with a $120 Photoshop job in Atlanta, but of course with my luck this summer it fell through (which REALLY sucks, that would have been half my rent covered). The money loss set aside, I'm actually glad that I didn't end up with the job. It gave me time to screw around with pictures I actually wanted to take and edit.

(like this.)

Now, aside from everything else Dice and Martha have decided that they want me to start a business with them. It’s main focus at the moment is Gothic and Cyberpunk hair accessories, like Dread Falls and Cyberlox.

It looks like I’ll be handling all of the digital stuff, like the photos, website, etc. It should be fun since I have no experience with Dreamweaver or marketing, but I’m looking forward to finally having an excuse to learn to use the $300 software I’ve never touched.  So far I dove head first into InDesign, and after about ten hours of cursing came up with a really simple business card and logo (which I'm pretty sure no one likes other than me me, but I had to put something in the corner of these pictures to advertise... Oh well).

I have to admit I feel great having all this work to do. I might look kind of frantic to people but I’m loving doing so much stuff. It’s great to be productive again.

Hope no one's computers crashed from the massive amounts of pictures I posted on this blog.
