Goodbye, Money. Hello, Academia.

I’ve been working on applications every time I sit at the computer for the past 3 days. I’ve managed to get most of the basic applications done but haven’t completed any of the departmental ones, mostly because I need to finish my personal statement. Right now, my personal statement sounds something like, “When I grow up, I wanna be a clinical psychologist cause I think it’d be really cool and stuff.”

I’m blown away by how much each school’s applications are costing. Most of them are $50-$75 for the application alone. Once you add on the fee for sending at least two official transcripts to each one, and having to pay to send GRE scores at $15 a pop, it’s costing over $100 per school. At ten schools, I’m spending $1,000 just on applying, not including possible travel expenses for interviews.

Unfortunately, this is just the way it has to be. Applying to this many schools is the low average for people trying to get into clinical programs. Here is the list of schools I’m applying to:

1.       Florida State University- Clinical PhD

2.       University of Maryland- Clinical PhD

3.       University of Oregon- Clinical PhD

4.       University of Pennsylvania- Clinical PhD

5.       University of North Carolina Chapel Hill- Clinical PhD

6.       Kent State University- Clinical PhD

7.       University of Louisville- Clinical PhD

8.       Emory- Clinical PhD

9.       Wake Forest- Psychology Masters

10.   University of Tennessee Knoxville- Experimental Psychology Masters

Most of the deadlines are December 1, but I’m trying to get applied before the end of October.
