Anybody out there?

Once upon a time, when I was still a little girl, I adopted a tiny, sickly, ugly, mud-colored puppy who grew into something fiery, exceptionally intelligent, and not at all like most other dogs of my acquaintance, and she ruled my heart for over 15 years. Her past will never be fully known, but her appearance and her mannerisms (oh dear heaven, her mannerisms) were strikingly similar enough to RRs to make me vow to have one when the time was right.

At some point within the next year, when I finish my master's degree, the time will be right.

I am not opposed to rescue. Most of my current pets are rescues. However, I live with six cats ranging in age from 7 months to 15+ years, and their safety is my top priority. I also have a young shepherd mix who can be very discriminating in his reactions to other dogs. I believe integrating a puppy into the menagerie would be the best and safest option. You can meet the menagerie, past and present, here.

I am working on researching RRCUS breeders as time allows, but I would be very interested to know where you got your dogs and/or who you would (or would not!) recommend. I'd be interested in anyone within a day's drive of Memphis, TN because I'd like to meet the breeder and intend to personally pick up the new family member.

Comments should be screened so, please, be candid.
